Try SC with itīs Free Fly event till the 3rd Nov...
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/promotions/37-Free-Fly

Squadron 42 (episode 1) will most likely be done next year, but Star Citizen will be in WIP as long as folks play it so forget the "when itīs done" thing.

Have fun!

They should be more honest and rename it "Star Citizens in Flames"

I couldn't believe the insurance mechanic! I mean having to insure a virtual spaceship you have bought just amazes me. People just went right on ahead and bought into it no questions asked! Crazy it is, to me anyway. I bet the developer s jaw dropped when this was introduced and no one raised an eyebrow! I mean, insuring a graphic and some code as if it was an actual vehicle, wow. Someone is laughing all the way to the bank.

Wonder when it finally comes out and people not insured start losing the ships they paid for it suddenly becomes an issue. May well even be some sort of law that makes this kind of thing illegal.

Or use the old term "Wallets in Flames"

Some years back I did spend some money on this site, I think it was starter pack deal for 39.99. Look interesting and I like these kinda sims. I cant imagine how many fans got pissed and want their money back. Want that ship? Gonna cost you around 600 bucks lol.

Just crazy!!!

There was alot of hype when SC got on kickstarter, and I was very excited about the game. There was a big hole in the gaming industry with space games at that time, so in a way it was god-sent. I got my starter package in 2013 and at that time they put out a limited amount of Idris-M capital ships with a price tag of 1,500USD for sale. Donīt remember the amount of ships but more then 10 for sure. I watched the whole sale event live with my SC org (clan) at that time. The ships were sold in less then five minutes!!!

It goes to show that thereīs people for everything. There still selling 1,000USD ships, and most likely will sell alot in this months CitizenCon 2049 (Nov.23rd) anniversary sales. Thereīs alot of people with money in the world!

As for delays, well Red Dead Redemption 2 took seven years in the making with a full team. If you consider that SC had to change there game engine (Crytek) in 2016, which meant a new start, and that in 2013 there wasent a full development team on the job, that leaves us with actual progress that started with there new engine (Amazons Lumberyard) in 2016, so itīs been three years now. Though people are not aware of all of this.

With that out of the way, nobody has done a game like this, which is not a easy task, no matter how much money is on the table. SC will have a bit of everything that other games have, and a bit more, and if you look at how the game looks, it actually puts other games to shame. Only more to come and sure thereīs a wait, but like I said, itīs a whole new game never done. To wait, yeah but so are others in other "none game changing" games.

See ya in the verse! (If your PC can handle it).

Sorry must have got it wrong. I'm glad that's not how it works. Still don't understand it though.

Red you say nobody has done a game like it, yet currently I see nothing new and a lot of big talk.

I will at the single player game, that's probably it though.

The pressure must be enormous. Add the huge sums of money, which I feel can be bad news, with it easily getting spent thoughtlessly.

The bigger the hype got and the higher the money raised got the more worried I became for the project.

Saying all that if they manage to do what they have said all praise to them. Would have created a masterpiece.

I got one free ship. All others, from what I see, cost from $25 to $1500. Yes, that's right, $1500 to upgrade a ship. One digital ship. Digital as in it doesn't exist but you plopped down $1500! I think it's the Nigerian model.

You don't buy the ship. It's a 'pledge' to help advance the development of the game with no guarantee it will ever be finished or even continue to be developed. Pray the dev lives a long life.

You can buy a game package starting at $45 going as high as $275. Believe it or not people have actually put in bunches of money for this game (pledged). I played it for a bit. Lots of micro management. As if computers didn't exist or are not very advanced. Maybe if I played it longer I might have liked it. Not likely. Elite and Dangerous it a better risk dollar wise. Much the same and actually a completed game.

Thatīs right, you pledge so itīs not yours yet. Same goes for games in EA which there are plenty. But no one is pointing at you with a gun to spend that amount of money, letīs be clear with that. With a starter pack you can work your way to buying any of those ships with in-game money, you can even rent any ship with in-game money.

As a side note, and I want to make it clear that Iam not defending this business model. With sofware, you are most likely to lose money! For one your buying the rights and not the product itīs self (see Microsoft), second, PCīs need to be updated to keep up with todays tech/development. Basically your feeding the industry for something that is really not yourīs, unless you keep feeding it! Itīs one hell of a businesses!

If some of you remember, you could buy Adobe Autocad circa 20 years ago (when I used it), you cant buy it now, you can only rent it! Same goes with alot of other development tools now days. Then you have all the DRM which is subject to a internet connection, of which you also have to pay for. So the question is, whoīs buying what and for how long?

Sure you can "isolate" your PC and keep playing your old games, but thatīs just a small part of what we are into.

Just my thoughts...

No one buys games. It's always made clear you are leasing them in the users agreement or ULA or whatever they get called. But in the end it's all the same, you own nothing.

Roberts Space Industries reported a total of $250,875,048 in total funds raised from 2,447,236 individual Star Citizens. The project began 2019 having raised about $213.4 million, and over the course of this year has pulled in nearly $37 million more. It’s an astonishing sum of money to have raised through backer support, particularly for a game that is still heavily in development!

that's one hell of a lot of money for a game still in development and ongoing

Whoa.

Where has all that money gone? Quarter of a billion for an incomplete game.

Incredible...I couldn't believe it back when it was $80 million... It is only a bit more than $100 per backer, truly an impressive achievement. For that kind of money they could be launching real rocketships.

I figure that for $100/backer, we would only need about 25,000 of us to create the perfect wargame. Unfortunately, we'd never be able to agree on what that would be...

The amount of money some people have spent on this is crazy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVDq4o9n8gU

They are developing AI to identify people who like to spend money on a game after they've purchased it and are going to tailor loot boxes and other game play systems to try and milk more money out of those "whales". They may even create a profile for you that follows you from game to game as they sell lists of whales and their spending habits to other publishers.

This does not bode well for the future of games. Once implemented most games will probably tailor the games code to serve said whales.

To bad all the hate going on, but for the price of a starter pack you, do get alot more even in itīs alpha stage then alot of triple AAA games that are at full release. Plenty of games claimed to be finished and have more bugs the Yogiīs backpack!

BTW, any decent addon for DCS and/or X-Plane 11, Prepar3d is at least 80€ for one airframe, and none of these platforms are bug free, and or consider finished till a next version comes out. Even then there are issues, so lets be realistic about gameplay in general.

Will see when SSOCS is fully implemented what the haters have to say. Anyhows Iīll be enjoying this months v3.8 and all you can do in this "alpha"

I played the latest build a couple of months ago for free. I tried, but wound up deleting it from my hard drive. No axe to grind, I just found it to be unplayable for me. And I like complex stuff.

It is pretty amazing the kind of money that Kick Starter and others will generate. And Star Citizen is far from alone in this. Maybe people feel good being part of something.

Like you said, in the end itīs no different then other sims out there. As I stated above, and to add up, if you have 10 paid for airframes in DCS, among maps too, your in the 1k price range. Most would not buy them at once because they might have a heart attack just thinking there spending 1k on pixels, but do buy them sparsely as it seems it dosenīt hurt that much. But to the point here, the fact is that one can spend alot on a sim without really a notice of the amount at first hand. Better not evem let the wife know!

I for one as many others who love flight sims and/or aviation on a budget so to say (simulation), have spent way to much dinero on such a hobby. FSX with all the addons you can manage, then a move to Prepar3d, then another move to Prepar3d 64bit, then X-Plane 11 to try also with some addons. Some of us could have bought a new car! But thatīs how some hobbys are, and if you add up all spent, you will be in for a surprise. RC Model be it in any form, = $$$, Train set be it any scale = $$$, WARGAME boardgame colletion = $$$, and I can just go on with these as examples

But people seem to like to focus on Star Citizen because the man knows how to make money

At present SC offers:

- Seemless space to planet transition.
- Whole planet exploration. (and not just a 3d conture like Evochron Mercenary)
- Space and land combat via 1st person FPS and/or onboard ship. Including land units.
- Ship and vehicle multicrew.
- On planet farming.
- Circa 250 missions of various types (although some are just variants)
- Role playing. (cargo hauler, bounty hunter, space expolration, maintainance etc)
- Online clan (org.) gameplay. (do what you want with some friends)

All these things just being a "alpha". Not bad really if you compare it to some well know MMO like Squad or Insurgency were all you can do is FPS and some multicrew in some cases.

Anyhoos, just my opinion and wont bring this up again. I just happen to have a different prespective thatīs all
