I was blessed with a nice coupon, and one of two games is getting picked.

Which though is my problem.

The candidates are Piercing Fortress Europa or Desert War.
I don't need either reeeeally, but 50% off is hard to pass up eh.

So guys, make a case for which one is the better of the two for me.

Nah, you make the call - Which do you prefer - like the Africa campaign or the Normandy campaign? What level do you prefer - Bn, Rgt, Div? What scale is your favorite? tactical, operational or strategic?
What screenshots give you the most graphics 'feel good'? Read reviews to see which uses game mechanics that you prefer?

Answer these questions and you should be able to make the choice.

Edit: Don't forget to look at you tube for demo play videos.

I have Desert War, but I only fiddled with it. It was overshadowed by the N.Africa scenarios in TOAW (exp. the Ben Cross' ones) and by the similar scenario list in Schwerpunkt WWIIE.

Edit: It is worth mentioning that these two games both have a complete 1940-43 campaign - something that Desert War lacks.

I have both, but I like Percing Fortress better.

- Percing Fortress is WEGO and my fav developer from the Matrix catalog, love all his games.

- Desert War is like playing a boardgame on PC, it does this very well IMHO.

But Piercing Fortress Europa covers only the Italian theatre, right? No Normandy & beyond.

I'm intrigued by the use of WEGO in the designs.
As for not covering everywhere, sometimes a game can try and do too much.

IMHO, if you are not going to use the Desert War editor at all, I would go with PFE.

My opinion. Both are good. Neither are favorites of mine, but that is just my opinion again. Desert War is more complex. The WEGO in both is very interesting. I'm a teacher. During the school year I play simpler games. More complex in the summer. Right now playing Fantasy General II, for fun. And Star Traders Frontiers, which is not necessarily simpler, but just a complete change of pace. After grading a bunch of tests on Beowulf, I am not in the mood for something like WITE, for example. Which reminds me, why can't Fantasy General II do a Beowulf campaign?

Piercing fortress Europa is one of my favorites. A perfect mix of strategy and logistics. Mr. Hunter is a great game designer
