Hello Gentlemen!

I'm not sure if there is anybody around still remembering me, yet I've never forgot this community (which must be quite rare on the internet) nor have I forgotten this great game I've played PBEM for many many years. Several years ago
I had a severe accident riding my Ducati when a car driver thought it would be cool to enter my side of the road when I came along with quite some speed crashing into the car's side. Four months of intensive care and many months more
in hospital and rehabilitation center were needed to get somewhat back into life. Even years later I have not fully recovered from the injuries and won't ever but in the end I survived and can live on my life.

I just wanted to pop in saying hello and asking if the PBEM community still needs a "new" player and if it is worth it reinstalling the game and get into it again.

cheers
Chris

Hey, long time no hear. Yes, the pbem community is active. This forum is going strong. I,in fact, am looking for a Japanese player to take over for my last opponent. The game is at December 26, 41.
Well glad you're back....GP

thanks for the kind words, I fear when I'll start a game I'll have to do it as the Allied player as it have been too many years without playing, even though there was a time when I considered myself an okayish IJ player

No problem. I'm, after all these years, an okayish allied player. I have to write everything down or I forgot about it. I had a head injury about 4 to 5 years ago....GP

Hiya Castor Troy,

Of course we remember you! Glad to hear that you are up and around again. We miss you and welcome you back with open arms when you're ready. Even if you were a noob that only joined in 2004, we still remember you.

The community is remarkably lively still. Some new blood and lots of old salts still around. Not as many as there used to be of course, we've had some IRL deaths in the community and the usual attrition from time and waning interest elsewhere. But what do you expect with a 10 year-old game in an 17-year old series?

Yeah, the community is still very active and congenial. Castor, you are certainly remembered by all of us "old timers."

Didn't you post a similar message in here about two years back - that you'd been away for a long time but were considering a return? (If it wasn't you it was the player who lives in Brazil and was formerly from the USA, but I can't recall his name at the moment.)

Welcome back Castor Troy!!!!

We certainly haven't forgotten you and occasionally wondered what had happened to you.

We had heard that you were in a motorcycle accident, but I don't recall hearing anything more after that.

I recall what a strong Allied side player you were in your PBEM days.

Very sorry to hear that you went through such a terrible ordeal, but very pleased to hear that you have at least recovered somewhat.

The game and the community are still going strong.

Hi Canoe!

I considered a return over the last years but I can't recall posting on the forum ever since as my health never was in a state I thought I would start a PBEM again. I'm happy to be back again though!

Hello Hans!

I always thought I was a better IJ player but it's certainly a lot easier to shine as an Allied player with all the stuff one get's. Really amazing to return to a forum and game I joined 15 years ago and still see people posting I knew from back then. Absolutely amazing guys!

Just fired up the game for the first time in all those years but it seems to have some kind of problem as it's really SLOOOOW. Clicking through some units takes a couple of seconds from one to another, same goes for getting into one of the menus/screens/bases etc as well as back out of them.

Am I getting that old and it was like this ever since or is there a problem with my modern PC playing an ancient game on? I just can't remember it being that slow, seems horrible.

edit: nevermind, used all kind of switches until the game started to run smoothly again. So fast that I had to turn up mad scroll delay again. OMG I really forgot how hard it is to set up this game...

now I wonder what's going to happen when I try to install Dabigbabes, extended map and cathartes planetops lol

You will have to look but someone has a small program that he built to set up the game. It does all of the switches . . .

I assume you're speaking of the SeeBee utility, Great job on the program!

I've been away for awhile and downloaded the program and installed yesterday.

It definitely erases the headaches of getting AE running smoothly on Windows 8.

Welcome back. I see you've found out that the game is not as smooth in Windows 10 as it was in earlier versions. Check out the Tech Support thread and you'll be up and running in no time.

Welcome back, Castor! Sorry to hear about your accident but great to see you recovered enough to put some energy into this grand game again and get lots of enjoyment out of it.

Welcome back, o rantmaster! After another forumite suddenly went to hospital, there were a few posts recently wondering what your status was after your accident. We all hoped you had come through it OK. So seeing you rejoin is a happy occasion for us and I am pretty sure you will enjoy the game with the patches that have improved a lot of game features, including some things in the interface.

There as some changes that affect game play - if you left the game before the altitude settings for various kinds of air combat were changed, just ask and we can fill you in. E.G. - the threshold for Ground Attack vs Low Ground changed from 6k down to 2K feet. Glide bombing was eliminated.

Here's a welcome mat for you ...
