The Washington Times is maybe one nanometer above the National Enquirer. Never pay any attention to anything written there, not even the headlines. It is utter rubbish.

A good source is one you don't catch lying to you. Unless you aren't very good at catching lies.

I think they all lie, but I tend to Fox News.

Re the title of this thread. The British Army already has a minimum age of 16 - its not under consideration.

Quite right: If you're under 18, you need a parent's signature: https://apply.army.mod.uk/how-to-join/can-i-join/age

IIRC, a number of the British causalities suffered in Operation Telic were under 18.

Also: the youngest U.S. serviceman in World War II was 12

What about shieldmaidens? Children's crusade? Volkssturm? The recruitment possibilities are boundless.

Absolutely right - and not often discussed.

The usual assumption was that they join but spend the time while they are 17 in basic training and not in combat. But assumptions are dangerous things ...

And in the French army starting at 17 (before that you get limited-time 10 days periods of try out, starting at 16, and we all go through our army day that can be followed by another army tryout of a few days). In most our countries school being mandatory until 15 or 16, you have to be able to find a way for those who want to find an alternative and a new career path anyway.

This sort of stories is just cheap clickbait, but it says much about those who write them - and much more still about those who believe it or even spread it with false assumptions. But keep on hating "Western academia" for that, right

Shieldmaidens? Can they stay in the army after they gain ... umm ... experience?
