I find that the FW109G and F models do the most damage the allies take early on, but it feels like Air Superiority ADs are bad at combating this. What's the remedy?

agree they are good, in WiTE2 I junk as many Ju-87s and swap over to these.

would suggest auto-intercept, or if its happening in the context of GS, assign a lot of your own fighters to the GS mission. Seems a bit unintuitive but basically they will go to where ground battles actually occur.

Bomb unit devastates the allied divisions to half toe easily, it's not GS. Do you trust auto intercept? You can't handle how many fighters are in the air that way and they might just get devastated instead of doing damage.

you should also be able to stuff the allied units and their corps with AA, that will damage (=low morale) most attacking aircraft. So you might have a bad turn, but then the threat goes away.

So, does GS work against ground attack orders?

to be honest I don't understand your question? The two may target the same hexes but one does so in the air resolution phase and the other in the ground phase.

if you are asking does either AS or auto-intercept interfere with GS, the answer is yes. It possible for an AS to fail if the enemy bombers are too low due to the height of the GS (remember you can set this in the air doctrine tab).

I personally find if I am being plagued by GS, the best way to get my fighters to deal with that is to assign my fighters to my own GS - they then go where that is committed. Clearly there are variables here in terms of which command you assign to and that they may have used up their air miles etc but in general it works well.

I've started doing this a lot as the German player in the later years of WiTE2 testing

Loki,

I think his question is: if you have FB-F fighters assigned to Ground Support, and then enemy does a Ground Attack AD on a hex, will the Ground Support fighters intercept it?

I'd say no. The GS fighters go into action in relation to the GS mission, if you want to contest the GA then use either auto-intercept or an AS mission?

but it depends, if you have firmly allocated the fighters to the GS then as above. If, as I often do, I have 2-3 missions and let the auto routines allocate the actual planes then yes the same fighter could both take part in some attempt at interception and escort the GS?

GS is extremely ineffective in this game. The biggest problem is bomb unit which often wipes out hundreds of men at a time and it happens multiple times per air turn.

Hi Searry,

GS is not THAT ineffective : you will not kill tons of enemies, but you will disrupt quite a lot (esp. if your GS in unopposed). It translates into forces that don't participate this precise battle, which in turn help a lot in the final CV calculations. As the Allies, I use twin bombers to do that, it's working quite well

On the other hand, the GA on a single hex can be useful, but remember that the air battle reports LIE like my ex-wife. Actually, you don't kill a lot of people. Although I agree it may be enough to prepare for a breakthrough (in Italy for example).
Of course, if you do it a lot, with all your air forces on all the front lines like someone did to Pelton quite a while ago, it's significant (like 10k per turn). But then you are neglecting other aspects of the air war such as Strat Bombing, Rail bombing, Airfield bombing (yes, it's important too), and attrition warfare is not really the way to win IMO.

What my opponent did was first disrupt allied divisions with level bombers, and then bombed with the FWs. This is all ground attack, no GS involved. The problem is I did not find a counter. Even with interception at 300% it was not possible to prevent toes dropping to 50% with all three support slots filled with AA. It's a bit baffling.

This time I will try to have local fighter superiority(superiority at 300 but no AD) and have typhoons, fighters and fbs for GS. Does anyone have good experiences from using level bombers for Gs?

Do you have Air Superiority AD's assigned to fly over the area that the Axis Ground Attack AD's are targeting? Are your AS AD's set to fly "Both Air Phases"? Do you have FB-F's in those AD's set to Day and Night during the Axis turn?

It would help if you could upload a turn so we could look at this/

Well, actually what I found out is you have to fly a massive number of fighters or FBs in air superiority, set manually to for example, 250 fighters in Sicily wiped out the Italian air force.
It seems like auto intercept is actually somewhat ineffective? It's worked well for me in Germany though...

Never tried auto-intercept. Always put area size 3 or 4 Air Superiority AD's over my forward troops, set them to fly every day, both air phases.
