Overall a pretty good scenario with one major problem, which I will explain at the end.

With Civil War starting in Sri Lanka in 2021, the Indian Navy sends an amphibious force to land at Colombo in support of the old government, whereas the new faction in power is allied with the People's Republic of China, who has sent the Liaoning task force to Sri Lanka to assist. India dispatches the Vikramaditya CVBG to stop the advancing Chinese carrier force and support the Amphibious operations.

Playing the scenario as India, I determine that my fighter aircraft (MiG-29Ks on the Vikramaditya and Su-30MKI Flankers at Sulur AFS on the Indian mainland) cannot hope to fight the J-15s on the Liaoning, so I rearm most of the MiG-29Ks with ASCMs, leaving two with AAMs for emergencies. I keep the Su-30MKIs armed with AAMs to face the Sri Lankan fighters.

I use my Tu-142 Bear F that is already in the air just north of the Vikramaditya group (which is on the east side of Sri Lanka) for two purposes:

A) Locate the Liaoning CVBG; which it does in short order with ELINT sensors

B) Lure any airborne J-15s into range of the SAMs onboard the Vikramaditya's escorts.

This strategy works, as the Liaoning loses 10 J-15s to my SAMs. I do not see any further J-15s airborne. The Amphibious group just off the southern tip of India, is also able to defend itself from air attacks from Sri Lanka with a little help from the Flankers.

Using the Radar on the Bear F, I get solid constant contact on the Liaoning group. Feeling a bit more confident, I launch all but two of my MiG-29Ks, armed with ASCMs, to attack the Liaoning group, in hopes of knocking out some of the escorts in preparation for my plan to put the Liaoning under.

The MiGs are able to launch all of their missiles. Four of the MiGs are shot down by Chinese SAMs, but the missiles succeed in immediately sinking one destroyer, and crippling a frigate which later sinks.

Next I implement the second part of my plan to sink the Liaoning. I send my sole submarine, the Kalvari, to try and get into position to launch a torpedo attack on the Liaoning. She is positioned in the path of the Liaoning group, which is headed west to support the Sri Lankans against my amphibious force. She is also just under the layer surface.

The Kalvari is able to slip right into the Liaoning group from the south and fires a full salvo of six torpedoes at the carrier. At least four hit the Liaoning, but they fail to sink her. The Kalvari is then found by one of the PRC frigates and sunk with torpedoes.

By this point, the Vikramaditya group has been steaming down the east coast of Sri Lanka, and is now within in ship-based ASCM striking range. I launch a full attack with Brahmos and Sizzler missiles, which finally finish off the Liaoning as well as a couple more of her escorts.

The remaining Chinese ships are still determined to reach Colombo, so I know I should finish them off. I am able to launch another airstrike with MiGs armed with the last of my ASCMs. These all score hits, which ultimately finish off all the ships except for the PRC fleet oiler. I later blast this ship with a few Brahmos missiles from one of the frigates detached from the Amphibious group.

I also have the Vikramaditya group steam at 5kts to help the escorts detect any submarine threats. At one point some submarine launched ASCMs attack the Vikramaditya group from the east. All are defeated before reaching my ships, but I am unable to find this submarine. Later, another submarine is found south of the Vikramaditya group, so I dispatch one of my Sea Kings to take care of it, which it does with both torpedoes.

Finally, as the Amphibious group is approaching the landing zone, I launch a SEAD raid against Sri Lankan defenses using Flankers from the mainland. This raid fails as all are shot down.

After the LSTs are in position, I detach the escorts to commence bombardment of the Sri Lankan airbase, Radar, and SAMs.

After about 2 hours game time of the gunfire bombardment, it is at this point that I call an end to the scenario, clearly having triumphed over Sri Lankan and Chinese forces.

However, my score is 640, with a rating of Average. This seems to be because I recieve harsh penalties for losing aircraft (-20 for each aircraft lost, and -200 for the loss of my submarine) while I receive no points for destroying any Sri Lankan or Chinese units. I only get a +1000 score for meeting the objective of getting the LSTs to the landing zone and staying for 20 mins. This is not enough to trigger the end of the scenario.

If the scenario author sees this AAR, they should fix this if they can, as it is very unfair score wise.

Score: Average 640 (really should be Major Victory or Triumph)

Thank you so much for the detailed AAR. I'm the scenario editor and I agree with your evaluations. I will fix the score on the new version.
You did a solid battle plan, congratulations. The J16 should not venture within Sam range without a good reason but I don't know how to model this behaviour
