I have been running some tests and have noticed that the experience of Ost Battalions never changes, it stays fixed at 30. Is this WAD? The screenshot is from turn 37.

Another thing I have noticed is that German units tend to lose morale points for no apparent reason. The only rule that I have read about that would apply in this situation is the one that says that a unit ''may'' lose morale during the logistics phase if a unit misses morale rolls. If this is the applicable rule, is it referring to the leader morale roll or something else?

As an example: The 26th Panzer Division (attached to OB West) has lost morale for two consequent turns and went from 80 to 78 even though it has 0 fatigue, hasn't moved, hasn't been bombed and hasn't seen combat yet. Also the unit is in refit on a depot (Brussels). This is just one example but I am seeing this happen quite a lot especially for units that are simply stationary in France. What causes this?

There is special handling for the "Ost" battalions. At least I see that in our tests they are gaining experience.

There are several reason units to loose morale:
- if unit's morale more than 30 of NM
- if unit short on supplies and misses a supply roll
- if some of excess support squads have been converted to infantry.
- surrounded unit(s).
- EF combat attrition

In your case I think it could be support conversion to infantry.

So the Ost Batallions do gain experience? Is there a cap to it? I am afraid I'm not seeing that happen in my tests.

Ok thanks for the info on the morale question. Will have to check if it's the support conversion that is causing it.

I looked up some older saves, they do seem to gain morale like other units but never gain experience (from training). At least not in GC43/4SC saves up to late september 1943

So I'm guessing this isn't WAD? I could very well understand if there is a cap in the exp level of the Ost Battalions but 30 experience is way too low IMO.

I see they gain experience, not sure if this is training or combat.

May be worth to look into it then. Maybe change it so that it works properly in the next patch, whenever it is posted.

At 30 experience, throwing them into combat would be a suicide mission really. I only asked because I don't like the idea of disbanding the Ost Battalions as this would be ahistorical. But if their experience levels don't increase with training, I see no other way then to disband them and use the manpower to fill up German divisions normally.

So the answer to this is that it is WAD that their exp will stay at 30 without combat. I've confirmed that the elements do gain experience from combat. You can always elect to disband them and use the manpower in other ways, but that does cost an admin point.

I disband them slowly as they are almost useless except for the men.

I agree. I was trying to avoid them and use them as independent units, but that is no longer the best option.

Hello

You can attach them direct to Divisions which will likly win battles (even without that Ost battalion). As a result the Ost battalion gain exp..

But need lots of magagement. They should not attach to Corps HQ because you can not controll to which battle this unit will be used.
