Map error in 1914 Guns of August scenario

Hi all...

I realize this would have limited or no impact on play, but the 1914-The Guns of August scenario shows St. Vith on the Belgian side of the border. This town and a few of the surrounding hexes (which would include Eupen and Malmedy) were part of the German Empire in 1914, only being transferred to Belgium after the war as a result of the Treaty of Versailles.

I'm just wondering how map updates are requested, evaluated and administrated.

If you want to make a change to any scenario for yourself, go right ahead. If you want a change made for the public, it is recommended to contact the original scenario designer. If this attempt fails [some scenario designers are no longer active] then post a thread here announcing your intentions [as you did above] and asking if anyone has any contact with the original designer. If after a reasonable period there is still no contact from the original designer, feel free to make changes and post a 'mod' of the scenario in the design forum [or to request a change be made in case you are not comfortable editing a scenario].
Personally, I would keep changes to myself as changing other's work could be a can of worms, but I've posted a few 'mods' publicly based on popular demand

I correct that kind of stuff for personal use... Geographical and placename errors in Belgium are a constant source of agony for me... I suffer from a condition known as 'born and raised in Belgium'

Hi David,
First, thank you for your interest in 1914 Guns of August.

Second, you are correct concerning St Vith.

The location of St Vith is probably correct; it may be a border issue. On my Michelin map, St. Vith lines up N-S with Luxemburg City, as shown in the scenario. However, as you point out, the 1914 border as shown in my 1899 Encyclopedia Britannica map and the West Point WWI Atlas shows the 1914 Belgian-German border as running more or less due south of Aix la Chapelle to the Luxemburg border (with a 10 km eastward bulge between Eupen and Malmedy). Interesting neither the West Point atlas or the Britannica maps depict St Vith.

I will make a correction on my scenario. I am not sure how to make a correction to Steam but I will try. Let me know if it works and if my revised border looks about right. I should appear as v4.71 if corrected.

As you point out this is really minutia compared to the bigger picture. One of my major design questions was how to set parameters to allow the German First Army to reach the historic phase lines 0f some 300 km past the Marne. And then get pushed back by the French and BEF. (TOAW4 now has variable Movement Bias via Events which helped replicate this.)
