The box is great and fun to use. Is the data for each terrain type available in a table of some sort (spreadsheet)? Perhaps the developers or testers worked off of one they can post. Maybe a player started on one we can add to. Anyway, a one pager would help players learn the game and develop tactics I think.

Currently the terrain attribute values are hard-coded in the C++ code. They've never been listed elsewhere.

I can’t remember what you’ve said in the past about making these attributes editable. Is that ever a possibility that could be implemented?

Let's not make this too difficult. I am not looking to edit the terrain attribute values. I just think an old fashioned table of the data that can be printed out would be very valuable. The data is not proprietary since it is viewable within the game. Does the developer think players should make the table themselves when all the developers have to do is a copy-paste from their C++ source code? Do the values change each time a scenario it loaded? If so, we need to know.

+1 to the ability to edit them, though - if that's something you'd consider (along with ability to create new custom tiles), I would completely use it!

The terrain data exists ... and it is not a secret to players. The data must exist in a form that can be exported into spreadsheet or something. I am not looking to edit the data, just review it over a bagel at breakfast.

Also, SoftDamageType.xml would be nice.

Just create your own chart, it would not take long. Create a scenario, don't bother playing it and just click on the map on all the different types of terrain noting the values in the terrain box etc.

You could even do it whilst playing a scenario or just adding to an existing list as you come across types of terrain you have missed.

I started that and stopped figuring the data has to have been collated during the development of AB. This is not an unreasonable assumption and I really hate re-inventing the wheel. Terrain effects tables are the bread and butter of many wargames. I'll wait a while and see if Veitikka can share something with us. Otherwise, I will grind one out.

Perhaps in the future, but the system is not very flexible, because of all the special characteristics terrain types can have.

Making a table of them is one of the many things that could be done in this project. Personally though I don't know how such table could help players, but perhaps some could find it useful. There are values that change with the environment, for example bad ground condition decreases trafficability, and leafless/burnt trees/forest have several altered values.

All the terrain attributes are subject to change.

You just confused the entire AB base of players. How are we to play a game where "All the terrain attributes are subject to change."

Kevin

PS: I see what you mean re: ground condition changing standard/basic terrain attributes like movement. I will put together a table and post it with some sort of explanation of how it could be useful and how it might not be so. Looks like the data will have to be assembled for day and night and different weather conditions.
