Many of author Larry Bond's current books are centered around Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV). I was wondering if there are there any CMANO scenarios that have been created that involve UUVs?

I do see that there are a handful of UUVs which are present in the game, and can be docked onto subs, but I am not aware of any scenarios existing that involve the use of UUVs. Does anyone know of any? Apache85?

It's just a thought.

Pole Positions DLC uses them.

Pluse any scenarios from the late 80's with modern Mine Countermeasures Vesseles (MCV), three of the Indian Fury ones for certain.

that so funny, I am reading one of those books right now and was thinking the same thing. I think the North Dakota (?) has 2 UUVs and they just launched some sort of tiny UAV.

I have a scen I am working on that I'm going to look at adding a UUV to.

Thanks for the info,

I own all of the different offerings, but I dodn't know if that was actually utilized.

The ones described in Larry Bond's book (albeit fictional, of course) seem a little more "active" as far as what they can do than what I am seeing here. I'll take a look at the scenarios and get an idea of how they might/should be used. Perhaps it's best to simply have them "on station" for a duration of time to simulate their task?

Thanks again.

They have another Bond book, "Arctic" something-or-other that uses them along with the USS Jimmy Carter, so it is kind of interesting. Obviously, I don't know anything about them, other what I have read in the books, but it does seem to be a relevant topic.

bummer - there are only a few UUVs in the db, and all look to be mine related. North Dakota also doesn't look to have anyway to host something like that.

And we need some post-2000s UUVs as well, some are civilian projects like for marine observation, but some 'rigged' (as media accused) and military-jointed designs can also comes with listening devices like passive sonars and transmitter for intelligence gathering.

Some minesweepers are also using UUV to locate and detonate seamines as well.

I just took a look at the ones that Gunner had recommended.

Two of the three in Indian Fury make "available" the use of UUV, but (as you said) they seem more for Minesweeping that anything else.

The one in Pole Position, however, actually uses the UUV as described in the book. Well, that's what its mission is, anyway. In order to get the UUV to "accomplish" its mission, it must remain on-station for a period of time in order to do so. That is what I expected. I would like to see some more platforms be designated as "hosts" for these UUVs. Unless the books are completely fiction, it would appear that some of these platforms should have this capability.

I would imagine that as the game progresses, and these UUVs start to become more prevalent, then the role of the UUV will start to expand in the game, as well. Right now, it seems to be able to accomplish what is required.

For a scenario idea, I might try to bring a sub into a hostile area, and then disembark a UUV to carry out a mission (be on station for a certain time period) while attempting to remain undetected, or something like that. It seems like it might be a little challenging, especially if you set the scenario up to have random placement of the enemy units at the start.

Good luck, if you (or anyone else) attempt to create a scenario involving UUVs. I'd be glad to take a look at it, if you do. <g>

this looks like where the UUVs inspiration came from in the book I am reading - same sub even (2015):

interesting - the same uuv in that article is in the db - but only has a mine hunting sonar. There is another UUV that sounds more like it (#645 Echo Voyager), but it is kinda big - 15m long. - doesn't seem like that would be hosted on a sub. But I could put it in a scen as a UUV already launched.

How do I figure out which sub can host a UUV?

Echo Voyager can be hosted on the Ohio.

The Jimmy Carter should probably be able to host small UUVs (not the EV - its too big) but in the DB it can't and there are not mid or small UUVs for it yet anyway. In real life I think its all experimental. A few of the LA boats were able to use the Seal Dive Vehicle until that was canceled, didn't work well I guess

The Russians are doing a lot of work with this stuff, check out HI Sutton and Covert Shores: http://www.hisutton.com/

yeah - Echo Voyager is huge and slow - max speed was 5kts.

But a Knifefish UUV with an added bow sonar looks pretty close to what is in the book. It won't fit on the Sub, but I'll have it nearby and say it launched already, Or could make a special action to launch it.
16kts max speed, maybe 24hrs endurance. Sonar went out about 20 miles. I like it! took me a sec to figure out that I could add a sensor to it. Maybe with a little work I can find a sub to host it. Already had the ND on its way into the danger zone so the UUV fits pretty well with the story line for my scen.
