I am sure this already answered but there is a small unit of 2 aircraft that is incapable of doing anything. They don't bomb they don't recon. I suppose it is a bug.

Any solution?

Post pics of the squadron screen. Could be a leader issue, a morale issue, or maybe the target hex just has too much CAP. A good leader will still refuse to fly into a buzzsaw.

Still in early stages no allied fighters, morale 99, leader has 63 aggression and other values are median to good.

I opened the scenario in editor and unit shows altitude 0, but i already changed inside game...

Weather is the only thing I know of that shuts down recon missions.

Nope. I have been playing sandbox (H2H) and had a unit of two Japanese Sonias set to recon a base where I had lots of AA. Great leader and morale, but they never flew no matter what the weather (sometimes good on both originating and target AFs). Left them like that for about six weeks.

Note that this one does nothing, no recon no attack. Only gets fatigue by transit from base to base. I believe this was already discussed in first days of the game but i have made a search and found nothing.

I set them at 7000 feet to clear balloons but have the best view of the target. I know that exposes them to AA, but I wanted to see what happened when I did that, and the result was per my post. If bombers can balk at going unescorted I figure a Recon squadron commander could also scrub a dangerous mission.

I had an identical problem with that fragmented B24 unit that comes in the game in '42. refused to fly recon or do any attacks.

Very likely an abysmal commander is the culprit.

OP:

As a courtesy to those that are taking the time and replying to your question in good faith, will you please follow through on BBfanboy's request? It's much easier to address these concerns without guessing or posting a laundry list of possible explanations. A leader issue is likely, so please post a screenshot of the squadron page that contains details of the commander. Help us to help you.

I always had the same impression - the Betty recon is doing nothing - so I usually downgrade the sub-unit to Nell and re-attach it.

The leader of the Betty recon sub-unit is not too shabby (from Scen006 Dec 8 start) :

Made a quick test with scen 006. Stood down all other landbased and shipbased aircraft of both sides except the Betty unit tasked to recon Wake, dumped a couple of pilots of the Nell unit to the pool and added them to the Betty unit, and recalled the Wake Invasion force.

Ran the setup over a couple of turns - intel screen shows no sorties whatsoever flown on either side, ops reports show no sign of aircraft sighted over Wake and no change on DL of Wake.

Has been like that for me as far as I can remember back.

Do you know if Wake has fighters or heavy AA?

Wake begins with 12 Marine F4 wildcats, a Marine Defense Battalion and a USN type base force. At least they do in every scenario that I have played.

They are not recon, they are level bombers, and somewhere in the manual, there is some obscure info about penalties for small (2-3 aircraft) bomber units. As the Allies at start, I always disband the small Phillipine bomber unit which has two B-10 bombers for this very reason - they never fly.

I posted this before so i didn't saw the need to post the screen: Still in early stages no allied fighters, morale 99, leader has 63 aggression and other values are median to good.

Anyone can make it recon or bomb Naurau or Ocean Isl. that are in range, it has no fighters.

The only thing i found iffy is the 0 altitude in editor.

They are not recon. Sift the manual for any penalties for small bomber units.

The normal recon flight is 4 planes, so off the bat you are at 50% strength. Those pilots aren't trained in recon, aren't flying recon planes, so their effectiveness is really small.

My guess is they are failing some kind of check do to being so few planes, or they might be flying and getting no useful data (but I kind of doubt that as you are experienced and would probably see that they are flying in the AAR and this also applies to weather).

I am assuming they are flying from a size 4 runway that isn't overcrowded or over stacked with good supply and AV support.

Are any planes set to rest or some other type of duty like search?

When you use a 2 size floatplane unit - or even 1 size - for recon it does fly. Maybe not always but they fly.

These don't fly either for Bombing. Yes Roi Namur is 4 sized, i also tested them in Truk against Kavieng and other Bismarck Isl. No flights either for bombing or recon.

Or just disband it into a Betty unit.

Use it for naval search. I've been doing that for game years. Same pilots the whole time.

Of course YOU would know how to use it, it is a Japanese unit. American units on the other hand . . .

The unit is probably failing a few checks (each reducing number of planes flying a mission by 25%-50% or so) and the resulting fraction is less than 1 - rounded down this would be 0...
