His turn prior to last, you'll note he went from 31 land units to 39.
There may be an extra Panzer, I can't keep track that well as I try and write down damage.
I did see a Mech because it took a point of damage around Nancy.

yeah but aren't most of those the free garrison from the Norway invasion?

Allied Turn June 8, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in Europe.

The Germans destroy the screening units in front of Pairs and on the peripheral. The French Fighters, newly reinforced, are destroyed in the air and on the ground (via a 3rd set of paratroopers) without scoring a single hit.
The French Heavy Tanks, A French Army, 2 Corps and a Garrison are also destroyed. The 2 French HQs are damaged but are not destroyed, yet at least.
The B.E.F. in Calais is attacked by a German Corps but is not hurt.
German damage for the turn: 2 Medium Bombers take hits from ground fire, 3 Armies take 1 damage, 3 Corps take 1 damage. The surrounded Corps near Metz is responsible for the damage to 1 GE Army and 2 of the Corps.

Musolini decides now that he wants to join with Germany. AVoiding the French Fleet (presuming Vichy is installed).

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

B.E.F. evacuates from Calais.
The 1st French Army in Lille does 2 damage to the German X (str 10) Corps, and takes 1 back.
The 4th French Army holds fast for a last stand in Paris while the rest of the French forces flee in terror, except the XLIV Corps which is still cut off in the Magingot.

The USSR seizes the the remaining Baltic States and Bessarabia.

Italy joins the Axis and declares war on France and the UK

France's 'wasted' diplo chit fires for +20% swing on Yugoslavia. (Why couldn't it have been Spain?)

French Communists continue with Anti-war propoganda. Most everyone is ignoring it as the 'war' is almost over.

Allied Turn June 30, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in Europe.

The Wehrmacht mops up all the French units that it can get to. Only the 4th Army in Paris and the 1st Army in Lille put up any kind of useful resistance.
The 4th Army damages 2 Medium bombers, a Tactical bomber and does 1 damage to a German Army.
The 1st Army does 1 damage to a German Army and to 2 Corps. A German escort Fighter engages a UK Fighter* over Lille as well. They damage each other, while the bombers get through unscathed.

A badly damaged U-32 (str 3) finds the B.E.F. Army transports (str 9) and their DD escort (HMS Javelin) to their south. They manage to avoid being surprised and do 2 damage to the transports.
The Deutschland then comes steaming in from the north towards the transports and is intercepted by the DD HMCS Assiniboine protecting them on the northern side. Deutschland takes 1 damage while Assiniboine takes 3.

Germany accepts Petain's surrender and installs Vichy France. The North African and Syrian territories swear allegiance to Vichy.

The UK Morale suffers at the loss of Paris.

Franco is encouraged by Germany's success (+24%), while the USA is shocked (+11%).

Franco begins exporting to Germany.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

British Morale increases a bit at the decision to support De Gaulle and the Free French.**

Aussie and Kiwi troops are rushed to Egypt.

HMS Javelin quickly finds U-32 (str 3) and cripples her for 2 damage.
HMCS Assiniboine sweeps around to the south of Javelin (to avoid the possibly lurking Deutschland) and puts a depth charge under the belly of U-32 breaking the U-boat in half and sending her to the bottom.

It's noted that Germany purchased another Major power Diplo chit. Did he drop another on the USSR, or is this one on the USA?***

The UK reroutes her convoys.

Operation Catapult is launched destroying most of the Vichy navy.

The US begins Lend Lease.

--------
* A minor mistake, I probably should have grounded the Fighter.

** I struck out and got 0 out of 5 possible units to go Free French.
I wish this was less random and slightly scripted. I also wish Free France was a 'Major Power' with a small income (representing middle Africa and New Caledonia) and a unit or 2.

*** Meaning he must have sold off one of his 2 (presumably) regular chits.
As I've stated before I am not a fan of the way major power diplomacy works in this game.

I agree, major diplomacy is in need of a revisit, which is one of the advantages of tourney play. The use of multiple diplomacy chits in USSR is a direct result of the current German strategy of minimizing all actions that would hasten USSR entry into the war. KZ, did me in brilliantly by using this strategy and in that game I did not put Allied chits into USSR. He ran roughshod over Egypt and GB before needing to turn to USSR. This is why I dumped a ton of French and British chits into my game against Sugar and got to 55% very quickly. It has helped immensely.

Between this strategy and the teleporting air units and troops the game is getting further away from WWII. For example Sugar left virtually all of France, the Netherlands and northern Germany empty in our current game. No reason not to, as he just operates troops, an HQ and air back and blows me up (I did withdraw most of them). It's a game not an historical recreation so this is not all bad, but its not all good.

I agree with you to a major extent.
There is a price in MPP to moving a force around to do that, but there should be some other kind of limits. I don't know what to do about Sugar's method of defense. Perhaps a constant small raiding force
that threatens and forces him to spend on redeploying and then evacs out before he can hit them. If he operates the units back to the eastern front... then land again, ad nauseam.

As for the Major Power diplo... it just turns the game into Roulette. In this current game, Germany is weakening her Tech advancement but the UK is hurting as much in forces as in Tech.
If he is coming for the British Isle, all I can hope to do is slow him down and build the USSR up (which of course is hard to do with chits being flung there). On the other hand he still might be going for Russia first, given that he took Lithuania. In which case the UK is still hurting in units to defend Egypt because of the Diplo investment.

I don't like it because for each chit that fires it costs the Soviets about 20-25 MPP turn (not to mention delaying when they can declare war themselves). That means only 7-8 turns before the lost MPP makes up for the expense of the Chit. If you factor in the amount of time it takes for the chit to fire then (assuming 10 turn at 5%) then 17-18 turns on average and you still get the full benefit of stalling entry.

However, the roulette factor is in when the chit fires. Since, in this case, he got a chit to fire on the first turn of investment (with a 2 chit investment) that winds up being a HUGE benefit for him. If the chit took 17-20 turns to fire then it probably wasn't worth it.

If I want to play that kind of game I'll go to a casino, I don't need to play a strategy war game for that experience.

My kid lost control of my car and hit a guard rail.

Allied Turn July 14, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in Europe.

A sub (str 10) runs into HMS Jersey well to the west of Nantes and takes 2 damage.

Deutschland (str 9) finds HMCS Assiniboine (str 7) but only does 1 damage to the Destroyer before moving off. Is Deutschland possibly low on morale or supply or just real unlucky?

An Italian Sub spies at Mersa Matruh and sees O'conner's HQ in the Egyptian Town.

Franco alows use of Some spanish ports.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

HMS Jersey finds the sub she encountered early, nown identified as U-37 (str 8), and engages her doing 2 dmg to the sub and taking 1 back.
HMS Bulldog then shows up to take a shot and forces the sub to dive.
HMS Javelin runs into Deutschland (str 9, supply 1) and takes 2 damage while dishing 1 back.
HMS Hood, Norfolk and Sofolk are then called in to engage Deutschland and sink her at the cost of 1 damage to HMS Hood.

At tech parity, that sounds like unattached units. For the UK the air war is Montgomery (with Command tech level 2) or bust.

With so much invested in Diplo so early, I don't have a good handle on the priority of UK unit builds and Tech.

A few other mistakes I've made have compounded the situation.

Allied Turn July 28, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in Europe.

Air battles over and near London favor the Luftwaffe. A few hits are scored against the German Fighters, a group of Condors (Maritime Bombers) takes damage from AA fire over London and a
wing of Medium Bombers takes hits from both intercepting Spitfires as well as AA fire. In exchange UK casualties are heavy with 2 wings of Spitfires reduced to half strength as well as the air wing
of HMS Courageous.

More German naval units (presumably subs) are traversing the Gibraltar loop as the German naval count shrinks from 9 to 7. Most likely the 2 subs returning to the Atlantic.

Italy chips in for her own Major Power Diplomacy chit. So now I'm down 2 active (and 3 overall if you count the one that fired in the fall of 1939).

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

Nothing of note to report.

Allied Turn August 11, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
?? in England. Clear in Europe.

I'm going to presume it was raining in England, but I didn't see it.

The only thing of note was Germany upgrading the port of St. Nazaire.

Also an Italian Naval unit appears to be using the Gibralter loop.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

Churchill launches an angry rant in Parlement, but again looses the vote. Diplomats in Madrid are seen boarding planes.

Allied Turn August 25, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

Bombers attack the Polish Corps in Portsmouth, with AA fire damaging a Maritime Bomber and 2 Medium Bombers.
3 sets of German paratroopers land, and finish off the defending Corps without taking any damage.
A German Panzer is then deployed into the city.

Rosevelt condemns the German landing in England (+13%).
Stalin is yet to be concerned.*

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

7th Armour is deployed at Manchester.

Parliment agrees to the USA proposal to swap Carribean bases for Destroyers.**

Top secret emergency plans are made to move the government if the worst should happen.

British Naval command, operating on intelligence from MI6 (which was itself provided by O.S.S.), orders HMS Glorious to strike Scharnhorst in Calais.
Land based Spitfires escort the SWordfish and are intercepted by German Me109s. This time the English come out ahead in the battle:
UK FTR 1 dmg, Glorious Air Wing 1 dmg, GE FTR 3 dmg, Scharnhorst 3 dmg.

HMS Parthian then manages to get close enough to do a further 1 dmg to Scharnhorst before moving near the Isle of Wight.
HMS Salmon joins HMS Parthain and the 2 subs blockade Portsmouth. U-47 is spotted north of Cherbourg.

Another brutal air battle occurs over Portsmouth. This time the Spitfires are escorting Sterling heavy bombers, and run into another air group of Me109s:
UK FTR 3 dmg, UK Hvy Bmbr 2 dmg, GE FTR 4 dmg, Portsmouth 2 dmg (reduced to a 1).

The Sterlings fly another raid, unescorted and encounter a 3rd group of German Fighters. Both take 1 point of damage and Portsmouth is reduced to 0.

The FNFL Triomphant joins the Free French under British command.

Free French and UK forces raid Dakar in operation Menance, but fail in their objective to capture the gold reserves. Tunisia protests the attack.

--------
*The USSR script didn't fire. Oddly the USSR script says 1-2 units within 1-2 hexes of ...
Does that mean it may/may not fire with only 1 unit within the range?

**I may or may not get them all (or maybe after they will show up later if the Isles are liberated?), but at the least it was a 2% morale increase
and the USA can pretty much send the MPP back via Lend Lease.

Did better than I expected. A bit of luck and a bit of a rest for my pilots goes a pretty long way.
Now I just badly need the famous English weather to show up. If there is another Fall/Winter/Spring of the Luftwaffe flying nearly unhindered the English goose won't be cooked, it will be microwaved dinner'ed.

Sorry, I forgot to take a picture.
There is a Panzer in Plymouth and 3 Paras around it (1 to the NW, 1 to NE, and 1 to SE)
2 UK subs are blockading the port (which should drop from level 2 to level 1), and the city of Plymouth itself is at level 0 at the end of my turn.
There is also a GE Sub north Cherbourg, 3 GE FTRs south of Normandy, and Scharnhorst (str 6) in Calais.
A UK Corps in Bristol and London, a UK GAR in Oxford, Dover and NW of London.

Allied Turn September 8, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

The German Maritime bomber scores a big hit on HMS Parthian, doing 4 damage. A 2nd attack causes the sub to dive. There is a 3rd attack by a German Destroyer that causes another dive.
HMS Salmon is attacked by a German Destroyer to no effect.

The Panzers move north out of Portsmouth and do 4 damage in 2 attacks to the elite GARR in Oxford. The low supply value of the Panzers probably saved the GARR, but it is a shame they couldn't get a hit back.
The Panzers then move east a bit towards London.

The Garrison in Dover is hit by 5 unintercepted bombers. The improved AA equipment (lvl 1) assigned to the GAR (and to the town) scores hits on 3 Medium Bombers, but in the end the Garrison is obliterated.
Both a German Army and an HQ then make landfall at Dover.*

Just west of the English Channel, near the Scilly Islands, 2 U-boats and an Italian Sub engage in one on one battles with 3 destroyers:
U-boat (str 10) 1 dmg, HMS Jersey (str 9) 1 dmg
U-boat (str 10) 1 dmg, HMS Bulldog (str 10) 1 dmg
IT sub (str 10) 0 dmg, HMCS Assiniboine (str 10) 2 dmg

Stalin grows concerned at Germany's aggression, or perhaps is just jealous at the ease of their success (+11%).

US pilots start Volunteering for service in the UK and are organized in Canada.

Hungary and Bulgaria take bites out of Romania.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

The damaged Garrison retreats north out of Oxford.

HMS Parthian and HMS Salmon break contact and move away from Portsmouth/Southampton.
HMS Bulldog finds U-73 (str 9) and does 1 damage to the sub. HMS Jersey and HMCS Assiniboine also attack the sub and do 1 damage between the 2 of them.

Subs or Raiders hit the Egyptian Convoy line for 16 damage. This could very well be Italians sneaking by Gibraltar.

* He must have gotten a very early breakthrough on Amphib Tech to do this. The first turn he could have bought Amphib chits was May 17, 1940 (his first Tech investment was 200 on March 2, 1940 so that can't be it).

How did you land 2 units in Dover, which is not a port last turn?

Or 2 units this turn? There wasn't a transport waiting to offload at Portsmouth, which is under a value of 5 so can't move and offload the same turn.

Do you get a long range Amhib at level 0?
If so that would account for it.

Ok, but are you supposed to be allowed to do it twice when at amphib level 0?

Allied Turn September 22, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

A Para moves into the undefended Oxford.

London is pummeled by air, but improved (level 2) AA from the city, the defending Corps and a dedicated AA unit northeast of the city, score hits on a German and Italian Maritime Bomber, and 2 Medium Bombers.
The German Condor actually takes 2 hits from AA fire (1 from AA unit the other from city/Corps). Neither of the Maritime Bomber fly 2nd missions.
English Spitfires fly 2 interceptions, after the AA unit fired twice, and does not fare very well being reduced to half strength while only scoring 1 hit on a Medium Bomber (one that also then took an AA hit).
2 Tactical Bombers also strike London and neither is hurt.

After all that the II Corps in London then fends off a paratrooper and 3 attacks from 2 Panzers (both str 11, the 2nd Panzer landing via Amphib this turn) and manages to ding both of them 1 dmg each.
The Corps is reduced to minimal strength, yet maintains control of London. Multiple Victoria Crosses are awarded, and the unit as a whole is recognized for its valor.

A German sub runs into HMS Bulldog not far from the Scilly islands and they exchange fire (Bulldog 2dmg, sub 1dmg). The sub then radio's Bulldog's position and Gneisenau smashes her with long range fire before Bulldog can escape (str 1).
Unfortunately Bulldog is then found by the damaged Scharnhorst. Unable to escape the Captain orders Bulldog to close range. Scharnhorst is perhaps momentarily taken by surprise and her first couple of volleys miss, but she finds the range and Bulldog is sunk.
Survivors, rescued by the nearby HMS Salmon, claim that one of Bulldog's torpedoes found the mark and hit Scharnhorst (2 dmg).

An Italian Battleship is spotted entering the Atlantic.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

London is declared an 'Open City' to spare further damage to civilians and historic landmarks.

In the Atlantic, ORP Blyskawica finds the Italian sub Leonardo Da Vinci on the Iraqi convoy line and forces a dive.
HMCS Saguenay on it's way to help the Polish destroyer encounters U-30 (1 exp), also on the Iraqi convoy, and exchanges 1 damage with the sub.

Raiders hit the Egyptian (10), Canadian (7) and Indian (17) convoy lines for a total of 34 MPP.

--------
* The defending Corps is at single digit morale and readiness, and would only have an entrenchment level of 1 or 2. Even if the Luftwaffe is grounded by weather this unit is not going to hold out against an Army and 2 Panzers with prepared attacks, even at mediocre supply/morale/readiness.
