Good day all,

I'm trying to better understand supply. So, I decided to take a look at a scenario and try to edit it to run some tests. I choose the Crusader 41 scenario. I also took a look at the thread by Bob Cross (Curtis Lemay - http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4387350&mpage=3&key=). It is very good and helped me understand a bit how to edit a scenario.

In crusader, the force stockpile level is 20, but with supply enhancement and enemy interdiction, the effective support capacity is 27. When I added a supply point and set it to 120, it provide 33 supply points and when I added one at 200 it provide 55 supply points. I think I understand this

There are a couple of things that I can not figure out how to change.

1. Supply radius
2. Force distribution levels
3. Force stockpile levels
4. Overextended supply thresholds

I would like to play with those as well, so if someone can point me in the right direction, I would be happy.

Thanks,

This is a shot showing another setting, but you can also see this where you set #3 and #4.
#1 is an Event, #2 is set in the next screen shot.

Steve,

Thanks for the quick response. I must be doing something wrong. Below is a screen shot of the options that I get when I open up the edit menu.

Or maybe you are editing a force when you get that menu?

What do you mean when you say that supply radius is an event?

This is the first time, with any game I have played, that I have tried to look into editing things, so I may have lots of questions as I try to figure stuff out. This forum is awesome as so many people are there to assist!

Have a good day,

Steve,

So, I went into the force editing mode and found the drop down menu you showed above. Cool.

I'm off to work, so I will play with this tonight. Thanks again for the help!

Steve,

Once again, thank you. Now I just need to figure out how to track all the things I want to learn...

As usual, I'm going to use slides and pictures to further my understanding. I will also be referring to the rule book - I know that takes the fun out of things, but it is important if we want to really figure things out.

As summer arrives, my time for gaming and thinking about gaming gets reduced. Oh well, I love spending time at the cottage.

Here is a look at resupply - and I have already learnt something. When you move, your resupply points are reduced the next turn. Now that I think about it, this makes perfect sense.

Now, this one is not clear to me. The manual says that an adjacent HQ increases supply for units (cooperative units) by 50%. Does not seem to be happening here.

Here is a look at the same battle, this time with limit losses as the setting. As the attack went in more forcefully, it did not last as long and the supply was affected accordingly.

Maybe this: I think that an "untried" unit's proficiency only gets "crystallized" when it first goes into combat - before that, its proficiency rating is just an estimate, and there is an element of randomness to the "crystallization".

That is true, Untried units will have their proficiency ratings reset by up to 25% after first combat.

This is very useful! Thanks for doing it.
It would be great to see what happens when a unit gets attacked and is sitting on a supply point.

Hey Mike, great job on your analysis. I too am wondering about the lack of performance from the HQ unit.

Mike - referring to Post #13, I think you are not taking into account the Formation Supply Delivery setting. The on-map display shows what is possible , but this is affected by the FSD setting. In this case, 6 x .65 per turn, plus .50 if the HQ is adjacent. Which equals 6, not 9, I think !

Steve,

Okay, that makes sense to me. I checked my "Bulge" Scenario and I see their supply rates are at 70%. Okay, I can follow this. Thanks for your response!

I took a look at an attack with an Indian brigade. A little surprised by the loss of supply by the HQ...

Steve,

I went back and looked at an earlier post (12) and I realize my deduction was wrong. I have re-uploaded the image here.

So, the unit is in a hex that gives 6 supply points. It's supply is increased by 6*.65 (HQ Formation supply delivery) = 3.9. But since it moved, it is reduced by 33% thus 3.9*.66 = 2.5. I guess this gets rounded down to 2?

Am I correct?

Thanks,

A look at how defending affects supply. I thought that I had messed this up because of the resupply between turns (I took the initial supply results before the Allied turn and the later supply results the next turn after the attack. 3 Recon should have been resupplied in the interim, except the unit is sitting in a hew without supply...) but my accounting is correct - maybe...
