Hi,

I was looking for this game and I wonder if someone could help out. I am unable to find it on the computer or possibly the board game as well. If you know where to find it? I really appreciate that.

I kept looking and I found it on this website!!!!
http://www.old-games.com/getfree/17824

it might take me a few days but what the heck - anyone have another suggestion? 5kb/sec dial up times maybe I will pass

Hmm interesting site. I'm giving their SP3 a try. Never enjoyed trying to install it on newer machines. Will be wanting to see if it matters getting it from them.

2 days to download. Oh well, I can wait.

Be aware that some games from the "Old-Games" site are not made for modern OS unless stated (will guide you with a work around). What I mean is that you might find yourself having to look for a way to install the game in your OS (windows7, windows10) on your own.

As for the card game, you have some (even new) for sale at BGG geek-market...
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/36325/down-flames-aces-high

It´s out of stock, but you can buy the Vassal module from DVG...

I've witnessed what seems like quite a few titles there that appear to be "how can they be offering these titles?"

I think management here should be taking a look at this site.

Old Games seems to derive income off of allowing downloads for a fee, which is really just a clever way of selling someone else's property.

whether or not they have a means to show you how to install older titles or not.

Weeeeeell sometimes you can return to the past, and sometimes not.

I checked out the V4Victory file. A simple size, no effort to obtain.

I downloaded a supposed "easy setup" You get a zip file, that extracts in an ordinary fashion, but there's no 'easy' set up. On commanding the exe to run, I'm told, my computer can't run the file. Tried a bit of cliche compatibility fiddling. No response.

I'm essentially of the opinion, your chances with these files are about as useful, as my chances on Plenty of Fish were :) Oh you can drop a few bucks for increased performance hehehe yeah right.

If the site isn't an outright scam I'd be surprised.
Your results might vary.
The files might be of use to a skilled Dosbox user I suppose. That wouldn't describe me though.

Nope, wait, I stand corrected. Holy crap, Wargame Construction Set 2 Tanks, actually works! Wow, I haven't seen this title in operation in like, hmm a loooong time.

You download a simple 7zip file, it extracts to a minor no account looking folder with bat file, a dosbox folder, a manual folder with a pdf file and a game folder with game files. It functioned fine on my Win 8 laptop, mouse was fine, sounds were fine, menus functioned. closed without hysterics. Man I've tried so much over the years to get this game to run since back around the XP days.

Still don't know if they are legally in a position to offer this program. No idea who owns it these days.

Ahh the wonders of computer savvy.

That site allows 2 free downloads a day, or unless you understand the specifics of dsl internet, you download two files, turn off and reset the modem and download two more files eh :)

Steel Panthers 3, the only thing I wanted to work, didn't.

But, I have been lucky with some old dinosaurs I missed. Global Conquest, man I loved this little random generated gem of a game. And it runs just fine.

I'm guessing the next title I WANT to run won't, but I likely will find others I don't really need, but they will probably run.

FWIW, the "board game" is actually a card game. You can get the latest versions from the author's site (Dan Verssen Games, aka "DVG"). If you want earlier versions, try GMT games. I believe GMT also came out with remakes or updated releases as well.
If you must play on/via a computer, you have Vassal Module option, sold by DVG... but that needs an opponent as there is no ai in vassal modules.

@MrsWargamer

Yep, a reset of your modem will do the trick, in some cases.

In some games from the site you will notice that on the top right of the screen where you have the download link, you will see "Download Easy Setup". This means that it has been compiled to install on a newer OS. Also notice that there´s a link (bottom left) that say´s "How to run this game on modern PC?".

All this is a indication that it will run/install on todays PC´s, in most cases at least.

As in this link:
http://www.old-games.com/download/8770/battleground-2-gettysburg

With others. well it´s a hit and miss thingy, and at times some help/research will get you going. Dosbox seems to do the trick on most.

It's been my experience, that "easy set up" is a bold faced lie.

Not one easy set up has actually worked.

I have noticed though, if you encounter a download, that arrives as a 7zip file, for some reason those always include a bat file that actually works, and the game actually run.

I've been successful with the following.

Wargame Construction Set 2 Tanks.
Russian Front II - The Kursk Campaign (1990)
Global Conquest
Clash of Steel - World War 2 - Europe 1939-45 (1993)
Patton Strikes Back - The Battle of the Bulge (1991)

The following have refused my initial efforts.
Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat
World at War series
V4Victory
Battle for Moscow

They all came as 'easy set up' files that were not compiled as 7zip files interestingly enough.

There are a few other old wargame titles present of various levels of interest value. A person needs to actually want something in order to download it of course. If you have Clash of Steel, you might not want High Command as an example.

Nice website there Red, hehe sometimes there simply is no reason anymore to download and install some games.

Managed to find V4Victory and it functioned as it would.

I forgot to mention that Wild Blue Yonder is the new edition to the saga of Down in Flames. You can pick this up when ever you like as this is quite new title by GMT...

Sorry just stopped laughing so much that I couldn't type!!

As you're referring to when someone got abit miffed about you posting something so I gave you some advice about when to reign it in, for your sake not mine, I see the funny side here and take it on the chin, plus you seem to have really made someone s day and hey in these times if in some way I can make someone laugh I'm happy!

As for your post, well as I've no idea what you want to post then I'm afraid you'll have to use your own judgement, its time I feel you don't need my guiding hand. Go on I have faith in you!
