This is just an observation, but I see most of your units are set to Minimize Losses. This can cause them to only make superficial attacks, and makes it easier to force the unit to retreat on defense. Most of your Tobruk garrison is set to 1 Dot, which makes it easier to force a retreat.

8.2.10. Unit Loss Tolerance Orders
(Advanced Rules)
Unit combat actions depend on the unit’s Orders
Emphasis, which is a relative gauge of casualty
tolerance:
§§ Ignore Losses – Units will attempt to either
seize or defend locations in combat, regardless of
losses.
§§ Limit Losses – Units take losses into
consideration in combat; they will either
break off attacks or retreat from a defense, if
necessary, to preserve themselves.
§§ Minimize Losses – Units will make only the
most superficial of efforts in combat. If the
enemy is very weak, they will press their attack
or defense. If the enemy is strong enough to
inflict significant losses, the unit will break off
or retreat.

Marion61,

Good point and thank you very much, I really appreciate your observation. I should make changes to at least the Tobruk garrison forces. That should definitely help things!

Have a good day,

I'm about to hand the game over to Rommel, but I am very happy with the turn - no map this time, just a look at the number of battles I managed to conduct...

I always have my units on ignore losses while on defence.

I quite agree. Keep up the good work Mike dude.

I do too. It prevents a lot of line breaks but sometimes the
units need to be replaced with a fresh one. Units use up their
supply at a prodigious rate that way. But it causes the opponent's
turn attacks to take more time to resolve in numbers of rounds so
the opponent ends up having fewer opportunities for attacking you.
That's the theory.

Cantona2 and Larry,

I'm glad you are enjoying the AAR - it is fun and helpful putting it together.

Thanks also for the advice on the loss tolerance. I will increase it to ignore losses - I especially like that it might reduce the number of rounds that Rommel (or any opponent) will get!

Have a good day,

As I get ready to start operations on another day. Things are progressing well - although my air force is reorganizing across the board...

Having taken a long look, here is my plan for the day.

The 2nd SA Div will push toward Bardia to secure it. The two brigades in the North from the 4th IN Div will start working northwards to move clear the German units south of Bardia and head along the Via Balbia. The 2nd NZ Div will push north and then pivot westward along the inland road.

XXX Corps will hold in place - with a couple of light attacks near Sidi Rezegh to keep Rommel guessing.

Tobruk will stay in place.

I'm going to bring the Army Artillery units into the area behind the 7th Armd to help with future moves towards Sidi Rezegh and Bir el Gubi.

Game over

I enjoyed this game. I like having multiple options for how to move forward. The scenario gives you that. I think that Option 2 - having XXX Corps drive on Bardia - would have worked.

I think that I will stick to the desert for the next one, but this time as El Alemain
