Hello all.

I just finished this book that I bought for myself after Xmas: https://www.amazon.com/Incidents-Sea-Confrontation-Cooperation-1945-2016/dp/1682471977

It is titled: Incidents at Sea: American Confrontation and Cooperation with Russia and China, 1945-2016 by David F. Winkler

It is an updated version of Winkler's earlier work "Cold War at Sea: High-Seas Confrontation Between the United States and the Soviet Union"

I haven't read the old version so I can't make any comparisons, but I really enjoyed this book.

The bulk of the narrative actually has to do with the Soviet Union/Russia, with only the last 10-12 pages of the last chapter dealing with China, partially due to the fact that there is not nearly as much history there than with the USSR and Russia.

Along with discussing various confrontations and incidents between Soviet and American ships and aircraft, it also traces the story of the creation and history of the US-Soviet Incidents at Sea Agreement (INCSEA) which can be read here: https://www.state.gov/t/isn/4791.htm

All around a very interesting read, and I think offers some scenario material in providing examples of real incidents to work off of, including an appendix chronology of incidents from 1945 onwards (the most recent entry is May 24 2017 where "Two Chinese J-10 Fighters intercepted a USN P-3 patrol plane over the South China Sea, with one aircraft flying two hundred yards in front of the American Aircraft")

I would definitely recommend this book.

Thanks for the recommendation, HalfLife'. This is just the sort of thing I'm starting to get into.
