Turn 2. Nov/Dec 1939. Axis #1. Initiative & Weather.

The axis win the initiative on the first roll and elect to move first. This decision is rewarded with an outstanding weather roll of 2, which produces fine weather everywhere.

btw, Ronnie messaged me to ask me to put a post on this thread saying he has internet problems until afternoon of Fri Dec 29. He said to say that he'll align both minors DOW'ed to CW. He's unable to post.

Why are there any Belgian units in Antwerp? If the Belgian units set up one hex west, the Germans would have no attack at all on Antwerp. As it is, if the ground strikes go the German's way, they have a chance to take it this impulse.

Interesting ... I can see the merit of setting up one hex to the west. However, if I still had to choose I'm not sure I wouldn't still choose my setup given the British position in Rotterdam.

I agree with Courtenay here. You should not have give the Axis the opportunity to attack Antwerp. Axis units will stop one hex east of Antwerp anyway. Also: let the CW be attacked in Rotterdam. That's far better for the Allies to happen than a possible crossing of the River line at Antwerp by Germany.

I would answer the same question based on what is in those German stacks. Sometimes, I would have the Belgians ask the Germans: do you feel lucky? Other times, not. And I usually feel lucky right after the other side had some good luck - like the weather roll here.

I scrolled through the previous situation maps. Given the low levels of Luftwaffe on the western front, I think this might be one of those times where I mobilize the Belgians up front.

My feeling is that if I give the opponents a chance they would not otherwise have, the dice will make me pay for it.

I have a phrase to describe what happens when I do give the opponents such a chance: "The dice know."

And always remember the golden rule of WiF: If you can't handle the worst result possible: don't do it...

I have a phrase as well: "dammit, the dice hate me".
Luckily, some games they forget about me and then I can actually play a decent game .

But sometimes you must attack even though the worst result would be painful.
Good examples are the axis during the summers/good weather impulses of the first years, if doing nothing could be as bad as a failed gamble. Or worse, ofc. Often the for Japan in China. If all you can get is +4 to +8, depending on the results of your wannabe ground strikes, you must accept the gambit at some point or go down quietly.

And if you have enough reorganisation capacity/reinforcements incoming, the worst possible result might not be so painful after all.
But then again, in these cases you can handle the worst possible result .
