Do you not think the attritional losses are personally worth the AP cost at all with the current version?

I am just looking up one of my games at turn 17 I have 73 different units of AA with a total of 29 flak kills that does not seem worth the cost to me now I look it up
Although my flak is quite spread out and not concentrated and also has little mixed types of AA together so I imagine there could be an increase in efficiency

Why would the Soviets ever want to spend Admin points on AA units anyway? Spend the point on a fighter bomber Air Group instead, as you have a mulitude of those available anyways.

Come fight time, you will simply swamp the German figters defending their own bombers by sheer numbers and win easily anyways.

Incidentally, the "super" German AA does have its limits. In my gamge against HardLuck, I have repeatedly seen that the Soviet IL-2's are more dangerous to the German AA than the other way round.

Historical issues aside, I REALLY don't think the Soviet Air force should be buffed or the Luftwaffe nerfed any further.

There is a similar question to the one I put in the sister ground losses thread, is this
i) A problem about individual battle losses
OR
ii) a problem about overall AA effectiveness

from the same game a screenshot of air losses at the end of Axis turn 14 - note the flak losses on the Axis exceed the air combat losses!

That is a good thing :) All the focus in the past was the ground game and the Air side of things were never really explored or took a 2nd seat.

+1

I was intrigued in another post where you mentioned improving on the current Soviet "blob" type of disposition for Soviet airbases. I posted to someone else how to place Soviet airbases for what I call a "zonal defence." But quite simply I cannot see any real talk about air tactics. Some of it is because of the barrier of mindless repetitive problem checking needed first for air missions. But once past that there are a lot of tactical and strategic dispositions that are just not discussed. I know in the 2by3+ team game, where I cannot get involved in air missions, I am asked for ideas by those who do the air missions and they seem to find this all very new. There was talk of making a proper air tactics guide. The old convention that you do not use the air force because it uses too many lorries is wrong IMHO.

The best way to stop an aircraft is with another aircraft!

I personally always spend max AP on new airframes each turn but I agree with Dinglr if anything I would say some tweaks on Soviet morale and exp would make the airwar more managable as at the moment you can just throw away your pools to grind out superiority in the air

Won't be making AA again though now I have payed it some attention 29 flak kills is abysmal!

It's tied to experience, of both AA and aircraft. Early war losses are indeed small, but by the end of the war, Soviet AA kills much more.

We can rely on experienced PVO AA regiment mid game in spring 1943 !!!
(Screen from my current turn 100, clear weather).

AT least we can rely of hordes of modern soviet fighters !!!

Joke aside, This is aircraft looses turn 100 in my game. I put one PVO AA regiment in each army.
AA do some kills. Especially german side

Did the 85mm sux that bad compared to the 88mm of the Germans?

No, it was equal to german 88m. It's just 88mm that was too overhyped by journalists and writers.

Steltecks example above is not looking good so far for your comment Morvael ;-P

Yes. I'am bad at managing the air force, but putting a AA regiment in each army do not really need skill, so i think my data relative to flak looses are quite reliable.
(My data relative to air to air looses may be not due to bad air force management).

If it isnt the shell then Soviet optics maybe?

You don't need optics to fire AA gun.

It looks like this http://armor.kiev.ua/lib/artilery/13/ (in Russian)

These AA gunners use binoculars?

I think I have found the reason for Soviet bad AA results

Concerning this specifical fight, you were facing one of my best fighter unit with morale and experience close to 99. and as you know, morale is the key in WITE.

And if I remind well, russian aircraft production at this stage of the war is close to 600 per week. So losing 500 aircraft isn't such an issue.

On the other side, if my national morale had been left to 75 instead of 67 now, I would still be on the offensive.

I wonder why german morale is decreasing despite such success on the eastern front

I have a bridge in Washington DC to sell too by the way.

Been there done that

quote:

London Bridge was sold to American oil tycoon Robert P McCulloch for a cool $2,460,000. The landmark was subsequently dismantled and shipped over to Lake Havasu in Arizona, where it was reassembled and still stands today.
