[FIXED B972.11] Anti satellite missiles

Somehow I have a feeling that as of v 1.13 it is not possible to launch RIM-161E SM3 block IIA against the satellites even though it is more than capable to do so:

On February 21, 2008 at 03:26 UTC, the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie fired a single SM-3 missile, hit and successfully destroyed the satellite, with a closing velocity of about 22,783 mph (36,667 km/h) while the satellite was 247 kilometers (133 nautical miles) above the Pacific Ocean.[42][43] USS Decatur, USS Russell as well as other land, air, sea and space-based sensors were involved in the operation.[44][45].

According to the database the maximum target speed is just 10000 kts. Which information is more accurate?

BTW I know for sure that I have managed to destroy 4 Chinese satellites using the mentioned missile:

Hmmm yeah... some of the ELINT satellites are too high, but the lower altitude sats are within Max altitude at least.

I see we changed the SM-3 Blk IIA max target speed from 12000kt to 10000kt in later databases. However it seems the speed of the satellites is 14000+ kts.


I'll need to dig into. Did satellites have a lower speed in older builds? Can't remember hehe.

Objects in lower orbit move faster than objects in a higher orbit.

Hitting low satellites is harder than hitting high satellites. (Assuming circularized orbits, etc., etc.)
