Scenario, Historical detail screens text not visible - 9/6/2017 2:35:25 AM

I asked this question in 2015 without any resolution.

I am running War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition (1.01.24) on a Macbook Pro Retina Screen using Windows 8.1 through bootcamp 5.4.

10079DR.exe was used to instal on to MacBook Pro.

I can not see text in Scenario Screens, Scenario Description, Scenario Details, Historical Details screens, pictures adjacent to text screens can be seen.

Text appears to be on screen as clicking blank Scenario Screen gives click and causes pictures adjacent to appear.

The SCEN Folder appears to have all Scenarios and complete texts.

Could text colour have changed to same colour as Scenario screen background colour so it can not be seen, if so can colour of text be changed to make it visible?

I can click on the Scenario Screens and load a Scenario without being able to see any text on the screens and when the game starts there is no text in the Combat Reports or in Unit Data screens either.

I have reloaded program and added updates several times and used different settings but still no text.

I downloaded the Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1125 updated 24 October 2015 and latter Unofficial Public Beta - 1126b updated 17 Sept 2016, the text was visible and everything worked ok when either program was loaded and run with base War in the Pacific program.

I am running War in the East, War in the West, Command Modern Air Naval Operations and other programs without problems with any of them.

Thats correct and thank you for the help geofflambert.

Also there are no number read outs on Preferences Screen boxes, up/down arrows make clicking sound when clicked.

All toggle switches move and lights change to green/red.

I started a scenario but had no text in the Combat Reports or in Unit Data screens, although exit buttons in screens work.

When I clicked "X" to exit game there was no text in exit pop up box.

Seems strange as Patch 07 fixes all the problems and program runs perfectly, the only difference may be Patch 07 is running in a window.

I will try running the base program in window mode.

The game only recognizes two fonts AFAIK, the one that it installs initially and another called up by using the -altFont switch in the game shortcut.
Mac may not have those fonts installed on the system. For a while, font ownership was a big issue - like copywrite for the font creators.
If the font is not on your system there is nothing to display.
Does anyone know what the game fonts are called?

The game text files are Constania Regular 11, have changed some text to Lucida Sans Unicode but text is still not visible.

Used -altFont text still not visible.

But as mentioned before all text displays if program is run through Patch 07 so I doubt if it is a problem with the MacBook Pro software.

Is Patch 07 changing text file format to make it visible?

Thanks for everyones help and comments.

I can still play the game using Patch 07 but it's annoying not knowing the cause of the missing text.

A number of people here use Macs for the game. I do not have one and can't really guess what the issue is.

Why would you want to play the stock official game, if you can play the latest patched Beta?

I assume you are playing the AI? The beta is stable, and offers a better experience, imho.

Anyhow, back to your problem, it maybe that you are loading the game and it is looking for some data in the Beta folder (or other another folder) rather than in the main folder. I am pretty sure I have done this accidentally in Linux installs playing with WINE with identical results about a year ago. I suspect something like this is happening with Apple/Windows conversion.

Not at my computer, but the text is loaded from text files located in the scenario "/SCEN" folder. I would 1) verify they exist (6 .txt fles per Scenario) - some scenarios do not create them and 2) verify they were not corrupted in save to Mac - encoding and specifics re: newline characters could have Windows program interpreting Mac EOL chars as EOF.

Forgot I intended to go find the files and display them for you. The text that is missing is loaded from the files listed (change 001 to your scenario number). If those files are missing or corrupted, you will not see text. So, uyou want to check to verify the files are in your SCEN directory.

It has been a *really* long time, but my recollection is that the Mac and Windows computers store text files differently. It is possible that your files became corrupted. Try opening the each of the files in Notepad and make a minor change, then save them. Check then to see if the text is visible.

Thanks for the additional advice infiniteMonkey, all the SCEN .txt files are in the SCEN folder of War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition (non updated game version).

I also copied SCEN .txt files from the Unofficial Public Beta - 1126b updated War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition Folder to the War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition folder (non updated game version).

Scenario Screens, Scenario Description, Scenario Details texts are still not visible, but are visible with game run from Unofficial Public Beta - 1126b updated War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition Folder.

This could be a graphics card conflict, although it is strange the text is visible when running the Unofficial Public Beta - 1126b updated version of War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition.

I intend to purchase a new computer soon so I assume the missing text should reappear.

I am considering a threadripper 1900X with GeForce GTX 1080 Graphics Card with Windows 10 Pro which should be more suitable then running with the MacBook Pro using bootcamp.

I have had no problems running War in the East, War in the West or Command Modern Air/Naval Operations on the MacBook Pro apart from it getting hot with some scenarios.
