Kaga took 4 torpedoes and not only was still afloat, but even provided CAP to the Japanese troops fighting for a beachhead at Merak! But I'm pretty sure I know where it is and I will flood the zone with Dutch subs. One more fish will surely (??) put the Kaga down.

How close was Kaga to the ground attack? If she was real close and only managed to launch two zeros then I would say she is in trouble. Now, if the ground unit is in a base then the planes from Kaga, that were in the air, may have moved to the base due to damage on Kaga....GP

Hmm, didn't think of that. The Kaga was initially right at the Merak hex supporting the Japanese landings there. That's where it was attacked by air on April 17. The next day (night, actually) the Dutch sub hit it twice about 4 hexes to the north. I am assuming the AI was attempting to evacuate the Kaga to Singapore. I think it only moved one more hex during the next turn.

Both the Vildebeest and Dutch Sub torpedoes were the small 18" ones. Much less BOOM than the 21 inchers. There can also be FOW around some of the hits.
Still, Kaga must have a belly-ache so if you can get a bit more damage on her the poor IJN damage control may not be able to keep up.

Kaga and Akagi are rather decent in withstanding torpedo hits. Afaik this has to do with their original design as surface combatants and their good torpedo bulges.
I remember several times when Kaga got a torpedo hit from subs (or Dorniers *shakes fist*) and still being on good fighting condition while most other carriers would be on the way to the shipyards.

Wow Mundy! That CV TF was majorly under-escorted in the BB/CA department.
But what were you doing with APDs in your TF? They do not belong in a shootout and just make your TF more unwieldy.
Well done on the intercept though.

It was sorta a cornered rat situation near New Zealand, if I remember right, so I kept the APDs with the big guys to give them a chance.

I had another similar intercept in that game a little bit earlier, but the BBs failed to land a hit on any carrier. A Stalinist purge of ship captains solved that, I guess.

Epilogue: it took my sub captains 4 more days as the Kaga slowly limped toward Singapore, but eventually one of the Dutch boats caught the Kaga and hit it with 3 more torpedoes. That, finally, did the job as air losses confirmed the Kaga went down. That's still one tough flattop. I admit that Mundy's solution is probably more satisfying but at this point in my game I don't have the forces for that kind of shootout.

Nice to have those Dutch subs on payroll as assassins. Well done!
