So, I was wondering.. when I have a Patrol mission set up (say, for sake of illustration, a ASW patrol). When a target is detected matching the patrol type, all the participating units will go "Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" and start racing towards the contact, which usually ends up being a huge waste of firepower, fuel and time.
So, is there a way to set the mission up in such a way that only a given number of participating units will investigate each contact?
For now, I think I can make do by splitting the mission zone into several smaller zones, but a more comfortable solution would be appreciated.

Try separate missions with their own patrol and prosecution areas.

Yes, that's what I meant with the last sentence above. It works okay that way, just takes more effort setting up the zones and assigning units.

I think your 'making do' is the intended functionality.

For AAW patrols I create one mission per 2- or 4-ship CAP. Give each an area of responsibility through prosecution areas.

Seems practical and realistic enough.

I think patrol missions with different prosecution zones works very well… And it's very flexible… It takes a little time but there is such a positive benefit in flexibility and management… Very clever really…
