The link below is for a PDF that offers a quick reference guide to scenarios that will be included in the first release of Middle East.

This is not the final list, as I intend on adding a few more scenarios prior to release.

Middle East: Quick Scenario Guide

Viewing this with a PDF viewer and zooming in by 200-400 percent will allow you to read the title, date and see which sides are battling.

You can find a detailed list of scenario descriptions here:

Middle East Scenario List

There are three Linked Camapign Games also included:

Israeli Tank Battalion, Suez Canal, 1973

45 Commando in the Radfan, Aden Protectorate, 1964

Syrian Tank Battalion, Golan Heights, 1973.

I only count 17 SP scenarios, looks like a lot more H2H. Looks like no scenarios where you can play either side. Does this mean the AI is heavy scripted in the scenarios? What about a scenario generator/campaign generator. I admit i was surprised by all the H2H scenarios.

I can assure you: Many of the so-called H2H scenarios are loads of fun single player, and in not a few, the A/I has beaten me!

Thx, that's reassuring. So when the scenarios are labeled with side A/B you can still play from both sides but the preferred side would be the bigger challenge? Is there a battle generator? Will the game be stand alone or if you have the other games will it install as an add-on and you can start from the same front end as the other campaign series games?

I appreciate all the work you guys have done, it's a definite buy for me. I'm so glad the changes will be ported back to the other games, a big thank you for that.

The Side A/Side B scenarios are specifically designed for that side. It is unlikely it will be a good experience playing it from the other side.

Most, if not all, of the H2H scenarios could be played against the AI.

There is a Random Battle Generator included, yes.

It will be a stand alone game requiring you to access from a different front end.

Thank you! Yes, lots of work to port the changes, but that's the plan.

And stay tuned for the Vietnam release late next year.

Followed by Cold War.

Don't forget that the scenario list won't be frozen, as with the campaign series, we will be offering UPDATES that will have additional content. For example, I have been working on a dozen or so that will not be included in the 1.00 release, but will be released later.

For the cold war hope you get a bunch of Korean War battles in, it's an under represented war, the Soviet/Afgan war will be nice to play with JTCS. in the Vietnam game I assume there will be some French scenarios.

By my count we are 33 days out....crunch time Looking forward to some AAR's and videos, especially to see the helo action and how the different elevations work out. So the helos can pop up and fire then drop behind a tree line or hills?

Yes, Vietnam will include quite a few French scenarios. It will also include some Chinese-Vietnam 1977 border war scenarios and post-French/pre-USA scenarios.

Crunch time indeed!

The AAR's and video's will come as soon as we have the Gold Version.

But yes, helo's can pop up, fire, then drop again behind a hill.

For background reading a good place to start is "Arabs at War: Military Effectiveness, 1948-1991" by Kenneth M. Pollack, published by Bison (1 Sept. 2004) SBN-13: 978-0803287839.

Also useful from a wargames perspective is "Tank Battles in Miniature: Wargames, Guide to the Arab-Israeli Wars Since 1948 No. 5", by Bruce Quarrie, published by . Stephens; 1st Edition edition (26 Oct. 1978) ISBN-13: 978-0850593044.

Realy looking forward to this one

I find it hard to believe that so many of the scenarios I would love to play are described as "head to head." Most computer wargames are played against the AI, aren't they?

Agreed, the list does not quite do the AI justice. I famously did a teaser AAR at the JTCS forums a good while ago, taking a thorough beating from AI in Long Road Home'58, which is classified as an H2H one.

Berto's Coder Diary #10 -- New A/I Bells & Whistles at JTCS forum (dated two years ago, man how time flies!) sort of gives an indication how even in mid-game you can adjust the AI settings if you think it should change its behaviour.

And to consider there's even some Newer AI Bell's and Whistles in the game now. It's been two years since that post...

Berto, I think this calls for a new Development Thread one of these days
