During the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia the F-117A, was deployed and subsequently shot-down by a Soviet-era SA-3 Goa SAM missile. The US Air Force F-117A was developed in the 1970s, entering service in 1983 and officially revealed in 1988. It saw its first combat in 1989 over Panama, and was widely seen as one of the most advanced pieces of US military equipment. At the same time, Yugoslavian air defenses were seen as relatively obsolete.
Unknown to NATO, Yugoslav air defenses operators had found they could detect F-117's with their obsolete Soviet radars after some modifications. The Serbs had also intercepted and deciphered some NATO communications, and thus were able to deploy their anti-air batteries at positions best suited to intercept NATO planes. The sole combat loss of of an F117, call-sign "Vega Three-One", stunned US officials and was a propaganda coup for the Serbians, who had adsorbed four days of heavy bombing.
This scenario is loosely adapted to that event and places the player as Captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and her air-wing. The player is tasked to provide a CAP to support aircraft from allies as well as attack Serbian ground units prior to the wing of F-117A's attacking.
Thanks for playing,
