v1.08 Release Notes (changes from v1.07/B678)
======================================================

MAJOR NEW FEATURES:
--------------------

* New weapon type: Anti-torpedo torpedoes and related torpedo-warning systems. (The player can fire these manually but by default the AI handles them just like with anti-missile weapons)

* New weapon type: Enhanced fragmentation warhead (aka "superfrag"). Examples: M30A2 MLRS Alternate Warhead, CBU-107 PAW.

* New weapon type: Contact explosive - sabotage & suicide subtypes. Sabotage allows simulating e.g. Tanya blowing a radar station (obligatory Red Alert reference: check). Suicide explosive allows modelling kamikaze units (e.g. the attack on USS Cole).

* New "ship" type: Mobile Offshore Base (aka "Battle Island"). Contrary to aircraft carriers, a MOB can also operate land-based aircraft (e.g. large transports).

* Players can now observe the engagement arcs of a unit mount. To do so, bring up a unit's "Weapons" window and click-select the "Show Arcs" checkbox for the desired mount or any weapon on that mount. Only one mount's arc is displayed at a time (this is deliberate). The arc is displayed only as long as the weapons window is visible.

* The manual weapon allocation window can (optionally, via a checkbox) present to the player the "soft" restrictions (WRA/WCS/other doctrine settings) which prevent a unit from automatically using a weapon on a given target even though the "hard" restrictions (physically able etc.) are met. The player can of course override the soft restrictions and fire manually.

* Significant speed improvement on large scenarios.

* Uncertainty areas for long-range passive detections (SOSUS, ESM etc.) are more accurate and reliable.

* Map tweak: A targeting vector turns yellow when the targeting unit is not cleared to engage the target (WCS etc.), and green when it is.

* Added "Reset All Side Scores" button on Losses & Expenditures window.

* The coast/borders line fades out as the camera zooms in on the terrain (similar to Google Earth).

* Subs always recharge their batteries when at periscope depth or shallower. They are also smarter about not running after targets they have no chance of catching up, and very their approach speed against viable targets more intelligently.

* Snap-up/down limits are now taken into account for AAW guided weapons.

* Side-firing gunships (e.g. AC-130) now manouver properly to place their targets on their weapons' line of fire.

* UNREP is performed at a realistic pace (1 item every 2 minutes per connecting line), and ships being replenished do not overload their first compatible weapon mount.

* Aircraft body IR signatures are now affected by speed (mainly affects supercruising and high-supersonic aircraft like F-22, SR-71 etc.)

* New side-level option (editable on "Edit Sides" window): Can Auto-track civilians. When enabled, the selected side automatically detects and tracks civilian/commercial units. This simulates access to publicly available traffic sources like AIS, and can be handy for piracy & law-enforcement scenarios.

* Various tweaks to mission editor UI.

* Numerous tweaks to damage modelling related to light-caliber, very high-ROF automatic weapons.

* Mechanical-scan radars (with the exception of ICWI-capable sets) cannot perform volume scan while they are providing SARH illumination for missiles. So e.g. once a fighter launches a Sparrow at a target it becomes radar-blind to any other contact while it is guiding the weapon. This can severely reduce situational awareness if the fighter is not backed-up by other friendly radars. (It also makes possible co-operative "you draw missile fire and I'll flank and stab him" tactics). Phased-array or ICWI-capable radars do not have this limitation.

* Includes updated & rebuilt versions of all official scenarios.

* Includes a new series of import files by Mike.

* Includes the latest versions of the DB3000 and CWDB databases.

* NOTE! Hypothetical US aircraft such as the planned-but-cancelled advanced versions of the F-14 Tomcat, F-23, F-24 (navalized F-22), A-12 Avenger II, navalized F-117, etc, have been given additional 'modern' entries with late 2000s, 2010s and 2020s weaponry so that they can be compared side-by-side with F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, F-35 Lightning II, F-22 Raptor, etc.

Awesome! Just bought the game the other day, and I love it so far! Got it off Steam though, so I need to wait a bit for the update. Any thoughts of using their opt in beta feature? Also, I'm desperately trying to leave a positive review of the game on Steam but I can't. It just wont't register my submission. I can review other games fine.

Good update.

Especially "engagement arcs" thing, i like it

also few questions:

#2871 - RBU-12000 Torpedo Decoy Salvo [UDAV-1, 10 rnds]
Valid targets - Surface Ships

Torpedo Decoy against Surface Ships, is this right?

also,

#377 - UGM-109E Tomahawk Blk IV TACTOM
Range (anti-land): 5 - 1600 nm

is this right? from "fact files":
Block IV TLAM-E - 900 nautical miles (1000 statute miles, 1600 km)
http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_display.asp?cid=2200&tid=1300&ct=2
maybe it's 1,600 km, not 1,600 miles ? (and can you please check #1180 - UGM-109H and #2942 - UGM-109I since their 1600 can also be in km)

or maybe I wrong and this is not bugs but feature

I have a request: can you insert something to allow me to put a diesel sub at periscope depth and not run the motors? I sometimes want the sub to sit there and provide quiet passive recon. Going to < 66m was a way of getting around that limitation.

Thanks for the update.

I've logged these to be looked at but please up these in the database string in the future so they're not missed.

Yes this is correct, 'legal targets' for decoys are the type of stuff they try to imitate.

Yeah will re-check but the big hype with the Blk III was its 1000nm range, and TACTOM an extra 60%.

Guys, what is your opinion?

Fair request :) But the big question then is, at what point should it start re-charging?

We've been discussing expanded sub battery & recharge behaviour during the last few, and may end up adding a new doctrine setting to allow the players and scen designers to fully configure these things. But since this has to fit into an already complex model, it might take a little while before you see it in-game I'm afraid.

In any case, your request has been noted and added to the priority list.

Thanks!

As far as I can see, there are two issues:

1) Player commanded request to not run the diesel motors. I don't see how this would require more advanced doctrine work / behavior modeling, though bypassing the current rules may be an issue.

2) AI controlled recharge. That's much harder and I don't quite have a good answer there. I guess maybe hostile contacts within X miles? But that's too uncertain.

1) Understood, but you can bet there will be at least four dozen players who will register support tickets on 'sub dead in the water' unless there is a automatic failover

2) The is already logics in place for the 'distance to enemy unit' vs 'battery levels', etc. So have to give the player the option to select which 'plan' to use.

Wow, great work, the game keeps getting better and better!

For some reason I cannot find
- 0009244: DB3k: Add Dutch Reaper MQ-9

They should IOC in 2016 if Im correct.'Hopefully, you can add it in the next update because I would like to use them in a scenario I'm working on! For now, I'll borrow them from the US...

Thank you,

Erik

Hi Erik,

You need to rebuild the scenario with the latest database for new stuff to show up. Remember to take a backup, and also save any custom mods as a 'Delta SBR' file.

Played through a full scen with no issues. Here are some items that could help. My install is original, still from the beta etc, I just keep updating it. Not sure if that helps but when you do new versions etc, it helps to know that it works all the way back and nothing breaks.

Merlin ASaC.1/2 does not reflect what's happening in reality:

- No interim Merlins are being rolled out;
- No Merlin HM.2's will be dedicated "ASaC.1/2" aircraft;

Instead:

- Sea King ASaC.7 is retiring in 2018;
- From 2018 onwards, Crowsnest equipped Merlin HM.2's are to take over the Royal Navy Airborne Surveillance and Control (ASaC) role;
- Crowsnest is a Roll-on/Roll-Off kit for the Merlin HM.2 similar to the ASW workstations, rotary sonobuoy launchers and weapons (i.e. should be treated as a Loadout);
- 10 Crowsnest kits are being purchased, but all 30 Merlin HM.2's in the fleet are receiving modifications to allow them to receive the Ro-Ro kit;
- An updated version of the Searchwater radar used on the ASAC.7 is the Radar system being used, this fits to the Port weapon station on the HM.2 in the classic inflatable bag (aka "Baggie"). The workstations are palletised;
- The kit can be fit "rapidly" to a Merlin HM.2. Widely believed to be similar to the time taken to ready the ASW Roll-on/Roll-off kit and weapons on the Merlins.

Thanks Kynth, you are 100% right

Fitting the radar means the ASW gear is 'rolled off' but we cannot currently do that in the simulator with mounted (non-loadout) sensors. And since won't want the AI to accidently start using the radar-equipped helos for ASW work, we split the versions
