Its mid October in my game vs AI and im approaching Odessa with is a level 4 fort. Am I correct in saying it can only be isolated by constantly bombing the port?

I only have 2 Romanian corps for assaulting, each with 1 pioneer unit. Will this be enough to get the job done?

Yes and no respectively. As you say, Russians will still be in supply there via the port. And you'll need some Germans to take it (IMHO) unless the garrison is very weak. Rumanians can assist but Germans will need to take the lead.

as ever it depends, with the removal of FBD5 there is a stronger incentive for the Soviets to try to hang onto Odessa and its a bit harder for the Germans to rail units down there. If the Soviets don't defend, or leave a weak garrison then its easy for the Rumanians (& maybe 1-2 German divisions to take). If the Soviets defend strongly they can easily generate a defensive cv of 60-70 so that is going to need a massive commitment to take.

But if the Germans divert that sort of force south, in turn they weaken something else and you really need to decide to commit pretty early. Even worse, odds on if you appear in real force the Soviets can either pull out or will rout to a safe port.

An AAR between Oshawatt and Stef shows the problems that ignoring Odessa can cause.

Rail lines should never go through Odessa, 80 miles to north should be GHC rail lines. Put your Italians on the 3 hexes withen 8 hexes of Odessa and a few Huns if needed so no paras can drop on it if you don't have house rules.

Then simply bring some panzer and infantry divisions that u be resting during the blizzard and let them wipe it out for some winter fun.
