So - if I was doing a new build (and I am not really a tree hugger). I would look into geothermal and put the solars on the roof if you have the right facing. Solar (I believe, depends on State, though at the Fed level it is still in place) gets you a nice tax credit. I am guessing Geo would as well. And then you are off the grid and storms/outages are handled at home. And depending on consumption/state you can give back to the grid and get a check back each month.
I'm currently trying to figure out how to get solar for my house. I'll explain later. I'm in the ER and they just put the sensor on my finger so can't type much....GP
