Good evening friends. It's been a while since I last graced these dismal parts of the forums with my august presence...
I just wanted to drop in and say hello to old and yet unfound friends in THE THREAD!!!* and give you all a short update on whatís happening in my life.
*(I still remember that the number of exclamation marks is important ... )
Currently I've just finished a ten year long stint at the Swedish Defense University teaching aspiring Majors about Brigade tactics. After I finished that, and during my summer ďvacationĒ this far, Iíve moved back to the northern parts of Sweden where I originally come from. In the move, I also managed to switch branches from being an Air Defense officer to becoming an Artillery ditto. As such, Iím supposed to serve for five more years before I retire at the age of 61 (normal retirement age for officers in Sweden)**.
**(For those who are not too befuddled to count (yes, Iím thinking about you AW1Steve ), that means Iím currently 56)
When I reach that age, I (hopefully) will have a little more time to engage in these forums and maybe play some PBEM again which I sorely miss.
Andrť, do your time horizon stretch as far as 2024? And can I then challenge you to another THREAD grudge match (in case Mike & Mike havenít finished theirs by then)?
Ö and I also remember that I earlier (that is, some years ago) was talking about going on a road trip from the east to the west coast of the United States. The plan is still there and is getting stronger the closer to retirement age I get. During that road trip, I just hope to get a chance to meet up with some of you guys and visit some nice museum, have some beers etc. I donít know yet if I can go any of the upcoming summers (in which case Iíll get back to you) or if I have to cancel the entire project until retirement.
In any case, have a nice summer you all!
/P.S. USS Mike, Iím appending a picture of what Iím currently sipping on between unpacking the moving boxes. Take pride in that you opened my eyes to the pleasures of rhum Ö /D.S.
Hory crap! Viking dude! Long time no see!
Welcome back. Sounds like you've been busy. Nothing like a nearby rumbling bear to make people appreciate their own native armed forces, eh? As we always used to say during big foreign animal disease outbreaks, "It's job security."
Your offer to the grudge match is most graciously accepted. I was thinking that 2024 was a long ways away yet, but that's only 5 years. And it was 5 years ago that I left the University of Minnesota. My God, what happens to the time? I should still be around and would love to take you up on a game if I am not pushing up the daisies. Before you laugh too hard, know that 3 of my last 4 PBEM opponents have shuffled off this mortal coil. So I'll be asking you for a note from your physician before game start.
If you elect to come across this great land of ours, you will need to-yes NEED to-swing through Texas on the Southern route. You can pick up ye olde Route 66 across the Southwest and head into California. I would be honored to have you stay with my family and maybe I can show you a thing or two around Texas.
Thanks for stopping by and try not to be a stranger.
