So it seems overly easy to track down their Starbases, however where they hid in colonies is another matter. I have been trying to eradicate a particular group for 30 years now, and I can't ever seem to get rid of them completely.

I have tried getting their operational map, but that doesn't show me anything, and revealing their Territory only shows their bases.

Am I missing something or is this intentional to prevent pirate eradication?

Also, please tell me there is a system search function. I have yet to find it, but my god do I need it sometimes :O

Use an intelligence agent to go in deep cover in the pirate faction, and you'll be able to see the positions of all their ships. Using ships with hyperdeny modules, hunt down their controlled planets, then their constructors, and then their bases. Be methodical.

On higher difficulties or when pirates are in high abundance, this is hard to do, but with diligence you can cleanse an area pretty effectively. Make sure to tick "Destroyed pirates do not respawn" in the galaxy options, so another pirate faction doesn't replace the ones you kill.

If you put enough of a beatdown on them, the pirates may actually join you.

After I have long range sensors, I will watch the travel paths of the pirate ships. I then send a scout to see whats there. If a base or independent colony controlled by the pirates is discovered, I attack it and usually gain a colony in the process. This is a good way to expand your empire beyond your self imposed colonization limit. GP
