This is a test of the same Axis start moves as in other Test 9 series
except the Allied moves are almost entirely computer controlled. A minimal
amount of hand correction was done - for example to insure production and
repair of future aircraft types is set to OFF.

The Axis team - the same one as in Test 8A - has come up with a creative
variation on the standard start turn. For example, they used a different
approach vector to Hawaii (within the limits permitted by code - if you get
too radical the ships won't make it to their launch point). This had interesting
results - and in fact the Kiddo Butai - which here is split into two forces - half
did NOT make it to its planned launch point vs Oahu. Instead it engaged in a
completely ineffective surface battle with Enterprise group, and then returned to
base (apparently retire was set) - but on the way back was able to salvage the
situation when air searches revealed the same target group within strike range.
Similarly, they elected not to hit Clark with all their bombers - as most players do -
and split their force (which was also done historically) with more than one target.
They did a standard landing at Singora, but not at Kota Bahru, and effectively covered
their invasion groups with land based fighters all along the coast of Thailand. They
hit some of the traditional small initial island targets, but elected to change others.
A fairly interesting start turn.

The Japanese team, having sunk USS Enterprise, but not eliminated the US battle line,
elected to bring the two halves of the Kiddo Butai together in the same hex for follow
up strikes on Pearl Harbor - with air units set to strike ships at sea if any were found.
Unfortunately for them, they picked a hex due West of Hawaii. Meanwhile, I, acting as
"guide" for the Allied AI (which has many things set on computer control), decided the
Allies would try to cover the retreat of Enterprise group's remaining ships, mostly damaged,
by sending surface groups out 12 hours sailing, to return via the same path, mainly to
harass submarines which might well torpedo the inbound, damaged ships if left alone. I
created two task forces - a fast one with 2 CA and 4 Brooklyn CL plus many modern DD,
and a slow one with 3 BB, 2 Omaha CL, and many old DD/DM/DMS. The fast force was directed
to a point 8 hexes out - it could have gone nine but I assumed it would lose ops points
in battle - and the slow one 4 hexes out. The slow one did manage to engage subs - but
nothing else. The FAST SAG, on the other hand, ran into both halves of the Kiddo Butai,
engaging one at night and the other in daylight, causing damage to many ships, including
carriers - Kaga is a wreak in spite of very little floatation damage or fires. This caused
both halves of KB to return to base, although one of them managed an limited air strike
vs Pearl anyway. The two halves of KB retreated in different directions - and one ran into
Lexington group. These exchanged air strikes, and Lexington air group was decimated. Lex,
although hit, is not in bad shape. Shokaku also took a thousand pound bomb hit, but in spite
of also taking shell hits, is still operational as well. KB is between Lexington - down to
one Buffalo fighter - and Hawaii!
