Has anyone dabbled with Stealth?
I was starting to test its efficacy before I updated to 1905 and lost all my save files.
It was occurring to me that IF it worked against the AI, some games the AI is omniscient, there could be several bits of fun with it.

-Entire Invasion Fleets with the max hull size of 400 dropping troops unopposed.
-Expensive, but very hard to find Private Freighters and Bases.

Problem is, just what IS the detection range? Sure the game says 40,000 for this system, 1.5M for that system say, but 40,000 what? And that compares to? If that is KM ships are basically blind, if that is Light Seconds stealths reduction is pointless.

Hi CyclopsSlayer,

One quick note - upgrading does not remove your save files. Each version simply stores its save files in a new folder. When loading a game, just navigate back to the folder for the previous version and you should be able to find all of your save files.

The AI is not omniscient, it does not cheat, though you can give it some advantages through the difficulty setting and galaxy setup.

Regards,

- Erik

Yeah, I was just going to say your previous saves should be at:

<Computer Name> AppData > Roaming > Code Force Limited > Distant Worlds > 1.9.0.x > SavedGames

Funny, I was just going to start a thread on this exact topic. I built some stealth frigates with powerful sensors to hang out in enemy space monitoring fleet movements. I noticed that once my stealth ship was built, a grey fog covers the area that it is in and moves with it? Can I disable this? When one is circling one of my planets, the grey field blocks my view of my own stuff making it difficult to click on a planet or ship to select it

Does it look like the gray fog in Das's latest video? That's actually caused by the long range scanners. Toggling the long range scanner map icon on the bottom right might fix that.

Or for the lazy and less IT literate (Appdata is a hidden system folder)

%appdata%\Code Force Limited\Distant Worlds\

That don't work. Stealth only made you on the scanners Proximity and Long range harder to detect. But when you are close to the enemy that you can see them, they see you too. So it isn't possible to sneak unattacked by Defence and Spaceport to drop your Invasion troops.
Instead Stealth add some extra Shields,Armor and Engines at this way the troop transport live long enough to drop the troops.

Yes, thank you...it was the long range scanners. I love these stealth ships. Park one with a long range scanner around a moon on the opposite side of a system from an enemy colony. Can watch everything

Everything but...stealth ships! At least till a certain range. At 40% range or 25% range for Cyclops' ship depending on stealth tech level.

The Galactopedia seems to have a the formula reversed. Instead of;
Visibility Range = (stealth rating/ship size) x 50%,
it should be;
Visibility Range = (ship size/stealth rating) x 50%.
