Awesome In-Game Screens

Achtung Panzer:Operation Star is an Eastern Front wargame with solid graphics and sprawling battlefields that really emphasize the scope of WWII tank combat. The gameplay is a remarkably realistic turn-based and real-time operational/tactical hybrid wargame that continues the series begun by the acclaimed Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943.

Awesome In-Game Screens

Post by Missouri_Rebel »

In my 1st campaign game my infantry are trying to escape encirclement and meet up with elements of an SS division. In this screen a forward recon squad is surprised by the Soviets and taken out. As you can see most of the crew was gunned down while trying to escape the burning vehicle with one man exiting on fire. Notice the pieces from the vehicle were blown some distance away.

This pic was actually taken several minutes later as ammo stores began exploding. How cool is that?

Feel free to post some screens of in-game shots.

This machine gunner was almost able to get to safety, but was gunned down before that could happen.

And the sole survivor wondering how he will ever escape such certain death. The dynamic lighting is really good in this game. As a matter of fact, there is a lot of very cool stuff in AP:OS. I am really surprised there is not more traffic on the forums because IMO, this is the 3-d tactical game to have. Combat Mission who?

Things go from bad to worse for Hubner Deirk as a troop was sent out from the enemy APC to see if there were any survivors. Deirk was able to hide for a short time before being spotted. A short 15 second exchanged took place where Hubners' MG-34 was able to get the better of the lower quality Russian troop and his PPSh-41 killing him in that field.

That brought the attention of the APC (looks quite a bit like a Bren Carrier. Did they Lend Lease those?) which fired one fatal shot to our brave hero. Here is our poor Hubner in the throes of death. When I panned around, I could see the shot that went through him carry on for several hundred yards.

Over on the other side of my escape, a column of my troops take off after a short rest. Here is the Intelligence map showing said column. Note that the red icons are individual soldiers and they move in real time on this map also. You can issue orders from this perspective if you choose to do so.

A more zoomed out of the same Intelligence Map. Consider these maps to be what your commanding officers utilize.

I'm sorry but what is the strg key?

----------------------------------------

Thinking I was upon the enemy's area and since I wanted to see what they did, my commanding unit called in illumination rounds. Keep in mind it was very dark before these fell slowly to the ground. You can see my column moving off the road where they will set up more of an attack stance. These flares are so cool and I'm glad they were added in the game. I'm curious of what else this gem will reveal. But neat shot nonetheless.

That is the Command unit to the left of the screen as they direct the incoming rounds. They can also call in HE rounds and smoke. Rearguard to the right.

Awesome screenies, the maps are particularly cool. Have not picked this one up yet, but hope to fix that this weekend.

Yes I use the map screen most of the time, and especially to make plans, using the 3D map only to check out the terrain or to watch some fighting. The maps are so big that zooming in enough to see individual soldiers means that I am missing over 90% of the map. This is unlike Combat Mission, where the map borders are a major factor.

Great shots. How did you get all those pics in one post? When trying to upload screens last night it said that maz size was 500kb, down from the usual 750. I assumed that was in one post.

Great shot of those prisoners. Where do the prisoners go once you capture them?

Tip for screenshots: press Ctrl + Backspace to remove menus, F5 to disable objective flags and F6 (cycle) to remove unit icons.

Use an image sharing service like for instance:
http://imgur.com/ (the best, simple and fast)
http://imageshack.us/ (good but really slow lately)

Then just link to them with the forum "image" tag.

The prisoners just walk towards your closest captured point. I haven't been able to see if they actually exit the map. That picture was one of those pretty rare occasions, almost a whole squad surrendered - I guess they were fresh recruits... [8D]
