This "AAR" is mainly going to be a collection of combat reports, with occasional comments from the Japanese point of view - or from a designer point of view. Paul will do a more developed AAR - he has something like the 4th most popular AAR of all time and is good at it. Here my objective is to test all the new units, devices, aircraft and ships in RHS, with a view to understanding how well they work or impact various issues? I will run a somewhat traditional Japanese campaign - but at a higher operational tempo - and a focus on evaluating the impact of adding historical airmobile assets, riverine assets, and other things. For example - we have armored trains - and the Schneider rail gun - and I want to see how well they work? Here I paid the political points cost to relieve Vice Admiral Nagumo with Vice Admiral Ozawa - in my view a better leader and in any case the one who concieved of the Kiddo Butai concept. It is my intention to sustain the KB raid until aircraft attrition or ship casulaties force it to end. To that end I have divided the tanker force - prepositioning it in two different places - to create operational options. [One set of 4 tankers is North of Oahu - the other between Midway and Wake] In Malaya, I decided not to land on Kota Bahru - but rather at Patani and march overland to it. The port size is the same - so it will unload as fast - but lacking defense - there is not the risk of losing ships - or troops embarked on them. This is a typical Japanese strategy anyway. Even so, look for a very fast campaign in Malaya - particularly if Paul does not reinforce as the Allies historically did. I am a Yamashita fan - so he commands - and I will use his combined army concepts - and usually that works superbly well. In Luzon, I decided to concentrate on landing at San Fernando - a better port than other places - and also an airfield. Also to take Baguio City (present only in RHS) with airborne - to get its airfield and supplies and resources - and its malaria free place for troops to recover from exposure to malaria hexes. Two landings in the South - not at the very end of the penninsula - should speed things up as well. I am more interested in resource generating Ocean Island than in Tarawa - so I take it first - but will take everything in the area in due course. I am preparing a fleet and an army to engage in the Northern Area - but it is just assembling now. We will evaluate the impacts of winter ice - and summer open river navigation - in this game.
