SITUATION on 5 February - See picture below.
Playing as Japanese vs the AI in BabesLite Scenario 1

TRYING TO TAKE SINGAPORE
I have a large force battling the Allies at Johore Bahru - which i suppose is better than in Singapore. But i have stalled a bit as fatigue is up to mid 60's for the Infantry units (though they are fully supplied).

The last combat went as follows:

Ground combat at Johore Bahru (50,83)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 56779 troops, 633 guns, 531 vehicles, Assault Value = 1584

Defending force 24615 troops, 289 guns, 273 vehicles, Assault Value = 355

Japanese adjusted assault: 795

Allied adjusted defense: 463

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), morale(-), experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
864 casualties reported
Squads: 11 destroyed, 66 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 14 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 23 disabled
Vehicles lost 31 (5 destroyed, 26 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
1313 casualties reported
Squads: 44 destroyed, 48 disabled
Non Combat: 16 destroyed, 132 disabled
Engineers: 9 destroyed, 12 disabled
Guns lost 24 (12 destroyed, 12 disabled)
Vehicles lost 38 (4 destroyed, 34 disabled)

QUESTIONS
How much should i let my Fatigue recover to before attacking again. Or should i risk it and keep attacking?

Also, i am very hesitant about ever using shock attacks - in what circumstances are they best used?

Many thanks

Sanderz

I would wait a single turn and then shock attack or outright if I feel lucky. They will be pushed over the river and all these allied units will suffer badly.

The true state of the armies is revealed by the losses suffered.  The Allies took very heavy losses in comparison to Japan, so they are about to break.  Since the Allies army is crumbling and doesn't have forts, you're next attack can probably be a shock attack.  It should do the trick.  As for whether you should let your troops recover from fatigue and disruption, for me that's still something I just have to "feel."  In this case, you nearly had a 2:1 and the defenders really are breaking down, so I think I'd go for it.

P.S.  There are few certainties in the combat model, so picking up a feel for how things work, through battles like this one, is an important step in the learning process.

Just do another deliberate attack. A shock attack would probably guarantee success but it would delay your subsequent recovery time. If your own fatigue and disabled squads were now at zero, a shock attack would be the way to go.

In the end i went with a deliberate attack - though it took 2 turns to beat them.

Thanks for all the advice

Sanderz
