Hi

The Japanese AI has just done a dumb move and lost a load of troops. Is there any way i can edit the save file to give them their troops back?

Theres another stack of 17000 just about to assult Singapore in a few turns time - are they likely to meet the same fate? Will they be better off becasue there wil still (hopefully) be some friendly troops already in the hex?

Thanks

No, save files cannot be edited.
The only way is to go back to the previous turn (or maybe a couple of previous turns if you still have them) and change some orders on your side hoping that this may influence the AI actions.

thanks for the info

another thought....
is it possible to load up as the japanese and cancel the move order, save the game and relaod as allies - or will the AI just reinstate it when it runs its turn?

You can load as the Japanese, but you should probably play past the point where it's an issue. One turn forward and it'll probably eval the situation the same way. If you don't want the AI to run amok with your carefully set-up TFs while you're away, you can load as head-to-head and play as the Japanese and be passive as the Allies. Then save and re-load as the Allies when you're happy.

As the Moose says, head to head is the only way to do it.

EDIT: When I do this, I usually also give them a few more little "boosts". Just be aware that the AI can, and often does, undo anything that you try strategically (like change a/c builds to a better a/c). Any help you give it has to be strictly "tactical", as in moving units, combining them, setting specific combat orders for that turn, etc.

AI doesn't have garrison requirement or restricted units, so if you play some turns as Japan, there's a risk that you activate soviets if AI have moved enough divisions from Manchuria.

One thing worth checking.

The Soviet check is proportional to how far below the garrison limit you are.  If the Japanese have completely drawn off all troops from Manchuria, it's almost guaranteed, but if they are only a little below, odds are good you can get away with it.  If the Soviets do activate, you don't need to do anything with them.  You can just stand down all air units and treat them like they are still inactive.

The reason the saved games can't be edited is to prevent people from cheating in PBEM games.

Bill
