I just learned that it was the name of the future tommy gun.
It sounds like something straight out of an old weird science comic strip.

I'm surprised the PC crowd hasn't jumped in and declared it an offensive name!

There was also a belt fed prototype called Persuader. Sounds like the names were chosen by the person which later would chose names for US aircraft.

I can see people asking what BFG means.

If you have one, they don't need to ask.

They have obviously never played Doom 2 then.

Apparently, XM-25 is being field-tested in Iraq and Afghanistan and it earned a nickname "Punisher" among troops.

Anyway, it's kinda sad that small arms don't get cool names like these. Just imagine WWII soldiers getting to use "Annihilators" instead of "Tommy Guns.

That's the old OICW I think. Sounds like it's really a good thing to have in theater. I wonder why it's so much more effective than say a 30 cal with a slung 203 grenade launcher, but hey, at least they're getting something to fight with.

Here's to hoping it doesn't fall into enemy hands, or to foreign sales !
