Started a new team and figured I would share the details of their conquest for galactic domination for anyone who still browses the tos forums. Don't cross your fingers for any dialogue or anything, but I will try to share as much technical information and gritty battle details as I can. Hopefully this wont end in shame.

My first two jocks (Leader/Manager) are meant for the same titan design so they will be proficient in close combat and guided missiles, seems like an odd combination but works quite well in a lot of situations. Usually I try to shoot for 60+ in weapon skills but this time I went for two different skills and needed some attributes, so 50 happened to be the magic number. Leadership and Business skill for their respective positions both got 60. I will try to reduce the clutter in the txt printouts so they are easy to read and scroll through. Now for the Iron Star Faction...

This titan is actually a variation of another titan that used GME's instead, also one of the power axes was a chainsaw in that variant which I will be posting the specs for shortly. Since it is difficult to make an effective LR supporting titan with rookie jocks and recon titans and often times your early support titans are required to get closer for a better chance to hit, I figured why not make a hybrid. This has slightly less armor than the Phalanx E variation but still not bad for a recon IMO, any section can take a direct hit from a tesla bolt except the head which is already fully armored. You may want to open up on hostile titans ASAP with the GMH's and deplete the ammo as they are located in the CT, once your missiles are out this titan should still be able to stand in for a damaged tank and deal good damage. Even if I am within minimal range, most of the time I will continue firing the GM Launcher if most of the ammo is already gone. It cannot function without being able to stand, so leg and LowT armor are good. This one should allow me to take a defensive position against hostiles more than other rookie titans I have made, and still provide some beatdown.

The next jock was meant to pilot a Phalanx E, the tank variation of the above titan so he gets close combat and energy weapon proficiency.

This is really a good reliable titan, makes for a perfect tank as far as recons go. Armor is better in the RA, RT, LT and the CT. Heat reg is a better -2.07C/sec, GMH is replaced with a medium laser in the head, so now it can fight even while down. Scanner is not as good as on the G variation, but the battle computer is kicked up to a DynamCorp(3). Probably the most noticeable difference would be the LA which houses a chainsaw instead of a power axe, the downside is that it does not allow for an armor increase like in the RA. But that's okay, a destroyed chain saw is not a dead jock and the armor difference is very subtle anyways.

After 3 jocks and titans I am left with 164k in the bank and an upkeep of 17k. Lets get it on.

Random Battle 1
---------------

Me against one other team, both rookies and same starting weight of 119.9t. Map is Terran R5%/W5%/H10% and fog is off. Hopefully an even battle for my new jocks.

Map is very flat with a few protruding sections of hills here and there. A few dense pockets of forest but mostly underbrush, which covers a lot of the open center area. I started on the right side and there is a range of hills just east of me and another north of me with trees and a few small ponds past that. There is one hex of dense forest kind of out in the open at the southwest part of the north range of hills, I am thinking I can use it to pelt incoming hostiles with my Phalanx Gs. Quite a few depressions scattered about, looks like a sparsely cratered landscape.

I started SE and the center on up to NW is wide open, good for me if he isn't packing mass guided missiles. One C-R2 chassis spotted right off the bat standing out in the open, targeting...

016: All titans moving in position and scanning, don't have a good shot with GMH's yet. Rock Star moves out front and to the west. Hostile C-R2 appears to be trying to move behind the cover of the dense forest that is still in front of me some ways.

019: Enemy light titan detected, it is chassis 1 and about 1.5km behind the recon. All my titans maneuvered to keep sensor lock on the recon titan, he is still trying to run out of my LoS but I don't think he'll be able to except maybe one which I am considering making a scanner link with.

028: Swift Star lock lost before I could get a scan. Linking with Lucky Star.

029: Never mind, just moved forward and it appears he has turned towards me. Breaking link and targeting.

037: Lucky finishes move and has 1 sec to scan, waiting on attack.

038: Rock fails LR scan, please try again. Lucky fails LR scan, and has a lousy shot with GMHs. Retrying and moving again. Swift running at full speed has a better chance to hit than Lucky(?), but still lousy. Retrying.

048: Lucky and Swift merge into formation. Rock still running parallel to the west and ahead.

063: Hostile recon moves into a depression, but it does him no justice.

065: Lucky gets a yellow scan, recon is an enigma. 4 secs left on move, waiting. Swift fails scan, turns and assesses attack situation with GMHs, its a no go, moving for forest cover and starting another scan.

069: Light titan is falling behind a little, good. Lucky doesn't have a shot either, moving for cover and starting another scan.

078: The enigma blasts out on to open terrain heading straight for me, Rock takes a defending position while Lucky and Swift are entering the forest.

090: All team members in position for long range bombardment. Lucky gets another yellow scan and crouches. GMHs hot, open fire. Hits dirt. Rock waiting in position, no enemies have fired yet, better start nuking.

093: Swift fails scan again, GMHs hot. Open fire. Its a hit, CT takes 4 and LowT takes 4. Keep them coming.

095: Rock gets yellow scan and targets the light titan, which is still some distance off. Recon is approaching at an odd angle (southward?), still 6 hexes away from missile group. Rock decides to ignore the far away light for now and approach the recon, but not before missing a cheap M Laser shot. He turns southward to intercept.

108: Lucky lets loose with another GMH and misses. Recon turns to straight in approach angle.

111: Swift fires a GMH round, miss.

123: Enigma approaching fast! Rock is one hex away and stops to rev up his chainsaw. Come get some. Enigma alpha strikes 1 hex away and misses all. Rock is slightly amused.

126: Lucky loses lock on the recon and starts re-targeting the light, which is a pulsar. //How does he know without a yellow or green scan? Enemy is just close enough now?

127: Enigma charges rock! Rock takes 7 in the CT and 9 in the RL, but swats the enigma to the ground like a fly and remains standing. Enigma takes considerable damage. Rock swings with axe and chainsaw, but misses as enigma falls to ground. Fires a laser blast, misses. Grr.. Swift lost lock on recon, re-targeting light.

133: The enigma stands up as rock receives fire from the formerly quiet pulsar, CT and RL hit again. Rock wipes the sweat off his forehead and continues as he doesn't see any red yet.

135: Rock hacks the enigma in the CT with his axe for 10 damage. Enigmas CT is now red, checks targeting display, engine is in the CBT. Good, lets shred this fool.

136: Rock misses a laser shot. Lucky gets a targeting solution on the pulsar, which is nice and heated up from those laser strikes, but still misses.

137: Rock tears in the enigmas RA armor with his chainsaw, turning it red. Enigma returns fire with missiles, connecting a few. Swift fires a solid GMH salvo into the pulsars RA and RL.

140: Enigma punches rock and the pulsar showers the area with laser fire, but fails to hit anything.

143: Rock connects an axe hit with the enigmas LT, and lights up its CT with laser fire.

147: Enigma throws a punch and hits, rock tries to return the favor with his chainsaw but misses.

150: Pulsar fires another round of lasers at rock, but misses all but one shot to the L Torso, all armor locations still good, but a lot are yellow.

151: Angry about that last punch and chainsaw miss, Rock crushes the enigmas CT with his axe and sends it flying to the dirt. Begins targeting the pulsar and prepares to move.

154: Lucky fires another GMH salvo, missing. Ironically frustrated with his luck, he stands up and begins closing on the pulsar.

157: Swift plants a GMH salvo into the pulsars LT and RL. She follows luckys lead, but trips over a branch.

166: Swift gets up, after looking around to see if anyone was watching, she proceeds to follow Lucky. All units are now converging on the light.

181: Lucky fires a quick GMH salvo at the pulsar, but misses.

187: Swift gets another green scan and stops to fire a quick GMH salvo, connecting the entire salvo with the pulsars CT.

188: Rock alpha strikes, but misses all. Karma.

194: Pulsar alpha strikes, turning rocks CT red. Rock misses with axe and chain saw and proceeds to run past the pulsar.

201: Pulsar fires its lasers, but cant catch rock before he runs by.

208: Lucky finally gets a yellow scan.

212: Lucky converges on and charges the light titan, but bounces off shamefully falling to the ground.

218: Rock turns around to run up and saw the pulsar through the back, and Lucky stands back up and gets a good axe hit, the pulsar gets a skill check but passes.

220: Pulsar lays into lucky with a few pulse laser hits, damaging his foot actuator.

221: Swift charges, fails, and falls.

226: Lucky hits with both his power axes connecting with the pulsars R and C torso.

227: Pulsar starts punching and swift gets up and lays some smackdown with her axes, connecting with the pulsars L torso and head.

234: Pulsar lets loose with another laser barrage, striking luckys foot actuator again. Lucky starts running after connecting two generous axe hits with the pulsars CT and RL. Swift misses.

236: Pulsar fires more laser, missing this time.

243: Swift gets an axe hit and pulsar passes skill check again. pulsar fires yet even more laser strikes, missing lucky who is running around wildly, despite a damaged foot actuator.

244: Lucky runs past the pulsar and off into the distance, expect GMH fire in the near future.

257: Rock moves into the pulsars hex, strikes, and starts moving back again.

251: Swift misses 2 axe strikes.

259: Swift connects with an axe hit, the pulsar is showing a lot of red but not going down. This is a bad sign.

265: While backing up, rock connects a laser strike to the pulsars L torso, sending it to the ground.

267: Swift takes advantage of the opportunity to shred the titans R leg and damage its left. At this point the battle is won.

275: Swift takes a few more axe hits and all units begin running out to GMH range.

277: Pulsar ejects, but it turns out the enigma is still sitting in his cockpit, targeting.

290: Enigma ejects.

Payment was 150k and salvage was 40k, no titans.

Thanks for the nice read. Why do your jocks prefer defensive skill over scanner or electronic warfare ?

Yes, at scanner minimum range you can identify targets with an active scan.

I think I was planning to use shields as soon as they got up to light and they mostly had leader bonuses in scanner and ew. I agree with you though I should have probably went for scanner skill instead.

My team got shamefully annihilated on the second map I played, well they lived but all three jocks had to eject and I couldn't foot the repair bill and buy a new titan. I realized there was a weakness in those titan designs because two of them lost a leg immediately to a hunchback and a recon with 6 or so SRM racks and were pretty much useless. Too much emphasis on close combat weapons.

I started a new Iron Star Faction this time with more diverse weapon skills and points in scanner/ew. I'll play a few rounds to make sure they will live and maybe we can just assume its the same squad ;). I have never tried unguided weapons before that I can remember and gave my leader skill in that, I made a recon with SRM4s and so far it is doing pretty well:

There might be a similar design already, but usually I just make my own designs without looking through to see if there are any close ones, I guess I should make it a point to make sure that the design can still do at least some damage while on the ground. Creating titans is a fun part of the game so I make all kinds of variations etc:

This one is still worthless when it gets grounded, but is a good design when its on its feet so I don't want to do away with it. It doesn't use much heat so I'm thinking now that it could use better armor in the legs instead of the current millenia armor, it wouldn't slow down the CC weapons anyways:

I think I might have found a small bug look at the jock skills on this titan design, what is N.G.M.? I assume that it is the skill for the SRMs, do they still check for unguided skill or is it guided now?
