I had Hoth as CO 4th Pz Armee with the rank of FieldMarshall. After I replaced him with another leader Hoth failed to be an option for assignment for any HQ. I know there are limitations as to which rank can be available for a particular posting.

However Hoth is not on the list for the OKH or Army Group-he`s not isted with other Fieldmarshalls.

He does appear in the commanders report without assignment though.

Any ideas as to why he`s gone?

The problem with Hoth is that he is not allowed to be in a command higher than Army. If I understand things correctly, it means once a German leader is a FM, he will not be able to command anything since he is considered too high to command an Army. Sounds like we need to add an exception that German FMs be able to command Armies.

Yep, I have been trying to find Paulas (spelling) the 6th Army commander at Stalingrad. Have not found him yet.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Joel: I agree that a Fieldmarshall is too senior to command an army but they should be available for Army Group and OKH.

2ndACR: Paulus is available. Not too sure when he arrives. In my game I seem to remember he was too late for the start of the`42 campaign. But not giving too much away I should add that he`s not too good, much better choices elsewhere.

Historically didn't he take over 6th Army in January '42, when von Reichenau hit the ol' dusty trail to hell?

Yes he did historically. He was later in my game IIRC.

Paulus was only promoted to FM as there was an expectation by AH that he would commit suicide; up till then no german FM had been captured....

The point was "If you relieve a Fieldmarshall from his command and then try to re-assign to OKH/Army Group/Army post he is not available"

This has happened to Hoth and Guderian in my game.

P.S. What has Paulus got to do with this in an historical setting?
