Playing 1941 scenario as Russian I agreed to play without house rules, my big mistake.

Now it's Blizzard season, 6th week, and I shattered only 2 German corps and that only by accident. Instead the Germans hold everywhere, even on plain terrain, my loss ratio is 5 to 1 when attacking even if there is no German air support!

The Germans even counter attacked shattering Russians in Blizzard!!!

How is this possible, any ideas

I don't know the trick but what I know is that german units don't shatter when readiness is high enough.
You can special supply a unit more than one time by changing its HQ.

As I remember from my old game experience with WIR long time ago you should first consider the game setting for the axis. Then you should take in account that german troops can reach a very good combat experience until winter. The other factors are the actual supply situation and the range to the next two upper HQs with supply the front and the railway situation. One other main factor is the combat readiness and the force composition. With decent supply and a good Ari/Flak and PAK and Infantry composition and battle readiness 80% upwards the German will be strong enough to give you a decent punch.
My main advice for a coming new game is the following:
1) after the first turns build a new HQ on the Crimea and give them FLak,one Inf.Div. and some modern fighter sqaudron and most of all Il-4 squadrons you can transfer.
2)all remaining air crafts should transfered to new HQs east of Leningrad and then you should gain experience by bombing the Finns and their cities and their HQs...
3) if you get new air squadrons sent them to the Stavka and train them as long as possible gaining experience
4) above all: now after the first turns you can strike havoc to the german rear areas like Ploesti and Bukarest where the main Axis Oil Reserve exists. Bomb every day and night Ploesti instead of heavy losses until there is very heavy damage displayed with approximiately three stars as I remember then bomb Bukarest the same way.
After some turns the German supply situation will change dramatically as they will gain no oil for a long period.
Now you could fortify a decent defense line some good hexes away from the germans.
In one of my former russian campaigns the German even stopped their invasion due to the missing oil/fuel. I was able to defend the crimea very proper and could attack first all romanian aircrafts then some italian and then the German as they are not able to start any CAp due to the Oil situation.
In November/December 1941 I started my counteroffensive with some good tanks in the south against Romania and was able to occupy Ploesti and Bukarest. The German forces wavered very soon as their tanks were not able to counter any attack due to the Oil situation. Later on their Africa and France Front shattered even very soon. It then let me enough time to consolidate my front and inmidst 1942 I stand in Yugoslavia,Hungaria and Poland and Lithuania with my strong tank troops and at the end of the year the OKW was shattered by an allied victory.

I do not know if this will be possible again as I do not know much about the newer Version of WIR.

greetings

Hohenlohe

edit: you can use this as an exploit...

Hohenlohe seems u played against very nub germans.
an average player puts a few fighters in ploesti, and ur bombing raid is over.

'In November/December 1941 I started my counteroffensive with some good tanks in the south against Romania'
Now this shows that ur opponent is a 8 year. an average german player has the south line near kharkov not near rom border..'

zeke, this is when no rules set. lots of HQ suplying makes this.
and i have no useful advices. try attack ger units which are far from rail, attack them a round with mainly infantry squads (as u have endless of it), next turn with tanks and arty.
but also the mod has great effects.
i prefer possum mod, better production sets, and soviets has bigger chance even w/o rules.

so what mod it is and how are the current loss table?

Thanks traubi and Hohenlohe for your advice.

As traubi said, with air cover no way to attack oil or other German production. Further my oponent used Alt-H to change his command structur completely and used HQ for additional supply of his overstacked units. I've given up the game.

What I learned is why house rules are needed

Zeke,

Your opponent was probably making use of a bug in the game wich allows to get unlimited supply and factory production by saving and re-opening the game file. Each time you open a game file, the program gives operation points, reinforcements, factory production etc. This means that if your opponent was saving and re-openning let's say 10 times, he got 10 weeks worth of reinforcements in a single turn and it was impossible for you (Russian) to shatter his (German) units during 1941 blizzard.

What you need is not necessarily playing with numerous house rules but to find an opponent who gets satisfaction out of doing its best in any situation and not only out of winning the game.
