I played it awhile back.
I laughed so hard, I cried, a couple times in some big races with lots of players in it. I somehow managed to go airborne in my car nearing a very tigh turn. It flipped end over end at least twice and flew over three other vehicles. If that had been the finish line, I would've won without touching the ground. What made it especially hilarious was it's turn-based system, which is excellent. Seeing all this happen turn-by-turn ends up being a frame by frame slo-mo procession. And injuries, damage, etc. are all listed next to your vehicle when they happen so it's even better. Seeing Johnny Leadfoot breaking his clavicle, and then blowing four tires and being decapitated on landing, is quite an accomplishment.
It's definitely worth playing the free racing part, at least, to see if you like it. I need to get back into it sometime, too, but lots to do.
