Just some pics of the trip...

Leaving London Stansted and over Southern Scotland

On this image, Cathryn asked "If we're above the clouds, where's Heaven" I explained it was much higher you couldn't get there by plane!
(I am NOT religious in the slightest - but who am I to destroy what she believes - she can make her own mind up when she's older)

Cathryn next to an old WWII bomb.

My dad showed me this bomb many years ago - when I was about 6 or 7 (37 years ago) and it was collecting monies from many different commuters passing through Queen St Station in Glasgow. It now resides in Central Station

Mons Meg (a massive Siege cannon) and the view from the Castle to our destination that day - Murrayfield Stadium

Mons Meg was a siege gun given the the royals by Belgium - called Mons Meg because it was test fired in Mons, Belgium

Final score - Scotland 15-15 England and ready for the homeward journey

I was disappointed with the boo-ing in the stadium. I'm embarrassed to say it was mostly (but not restricted to) my fellow Scots.

Great pics JD! I would love to see Scotland some day. My ancestry is the Isles.

I'll admit that lot's of us older Yanks don't know alot about Soccer (Football). Isn't 15 to 15 an unusually high score?

Great pics JD.

Dave

The 6 Nations competition is a Rugby Union competition. It includes Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, France and Italy.

If you win all games, you win the "Grand Slam". If you come top of the league, but haven't won all games, then you just win the Championship...the Grand Slam is the biggie. The last time Scotland won it was 1990.

Within this tournament, there are "smaller" cups to be won. For example, there's the Triple Crown trophy. In order to win it, you have to be either England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales AND you have to beat all 3 competitors. Ireland are looking as if they might nab that this time as they have beaten England and Wales and play Scotland next weekend.

There's also the Calcutta Cup...played for between Scotland and England exclusively. England won it last year and because this game was a draw, they retain that cup. They'll probably win it next year as well as Scotland have an atrocious record at playing England at Twickenham - Scotland haven't won at Twickenham since 1983

@Mac67
Well....that explains it. I told you some of us older Yanks were ingorant. I know less about rugby than I do soccer. And some of us don't read too well either.

@JD
Thanks for the explanation JD. Never too old to learn something new.

Don't know whether to congratulate or commiserate on the draw, sort of a case of so near but so far.

P.S. you forgot to mention the other "smaller prize" of the six nations - the wooden spoon

Great pictures JD.

I hope that I can get to Edinburgh someday. I have seen the Military Tattoo several times on film-fantastic. I'm only 1/4 Scott, but I love the pipes.

I'm just imagining the soccer (football) players and officials wetting themselves at the idea of a 15-15 score

Yes, thanks Wolfe

As Wolfe has alluded to, there is a "Wooden Spoon" prize. I'm sure you are all aware what it is, but in case the term is unfamiliar to you, the Wooden Spoon is given to the team coming last in the Tournament - and Scotland look very likely to receive this trophy this year.

o6 Maestro
That 1/4 Scots is probably your strongest asset

Southern Land
I think the Scotland football team would wet themselves if they could score a goal, nevermind get 15 of them! Goals to the Scotland football team are as elusive as tries to the Scotland Rugby team.

So 15 all, all penalty kicks I presume!  They have to decrease the amount of points for a penalty kick, in too many games the only scoring is via penalty kicks!
