Hi All

When you have a group of CVE carriers that have the max planes, 28 F4F's & 28 SD3's, how do you get then to transfer to replace downed aircraft from your main CV task forces???

Does it happen automatically, or do you need to transfer the squadron over?

If automatic, do you need to set those replacements to Training, or Escort? or whatever? and does the ship have to be part of the CV taskforce.. or just follow the CV TF with the CVE TF????

The CVE need to be in an replenishment TF.
They dont need to be in the same HEX, but i dont know the range they use for replenish (normel, extende, with or without droptanks)
Pilots can be set to training.

I dont belive so. Which is a good thing because most of those pilots in the VRs are misserable

Why would that be? Wouldn't they graduate from the same flight schools (Pensacola, etc.) as the fleet carrier guys? This theory also didn't seem to borne out IRL (Taffy 3, etc.) ... not sure how landing a plane on a *really* tiny deck would take less skill?

There are no miserable pilots that have been qualified to land a plane on a postage stamp in the water.

So what happens if I have CVEs full of F6Fs but CVs full of F4Fs?  Will the Hellcats replace the Wildcats?

But Taffy 3 as not a replenishment TF, the CVEs were conducting ground support missions.

Nope, CVE's are for replacements for that aircraft only, for example if your carrier is F4F's and CVE has Hellcats, you will receive NO replacements. CVE aircraft must be in a replenishment task force with a carrier group made up of the same aircraft.

One thing I have done with CVE's in the past, was if they were not needed at the moment, I would ship them to shore without auto squadron size on, and put the entire squadron on training to build up experience, because if you look at the replenishment carrier pilots they are horrible quality pilots, last thing you want to rush 30exp pilots into combat which are useless period.

Also don't rush to upgrade the CVE planes, make sure your carriers get first pick of fighters like Hellcat, and leave CVE's alone until you get ample replacements or you will have a CVE full of hellcats with 30 exp and carrier pilots sitting in F4F's with ample experience.

I'm a new jap player, so will this work with Japanese CVE's also?

I don't think pilot quality on a CVE changes as the TF's mission changes, either IRL or in the game.

I am not entirely sure on the Japanese CVE's, I do believe you should be able to overload a CVE with say Zero's that are carrier capable and have the Task force as a replenishment it should work, can any Japanese players confirm this? or is this only an American option with the VR squadrons?
