Does the US Navy, in war time, let go of the dead at sea anymore?

I don't imagine they'd keep the bodies of deceased sailors aboard.  That would be awful for morale.  I'm not a sailor, but I'm pretty sure burial at sea is still the custom.

In subs, we carried two body bags. The official plan was to bag 'em, put 'em in the freezer with the chow. As Supply Officer (and also fond of chow) I ordered the cooks to never kill anyone, even if they were deserving.

We also had enough drugs used in your better psych wards to put most of the crew in their racks, breathing shallowly. Just in case WWIII broke out, dontchaknow.

In today's military, with transportation like it is, not bringing a body home to the relatives would be a last resort I'd think. If you're operating with a CVBG, as most skimmers are, you can fly a body off to an air-head and give it to the Air Force to take into Dover AFB.
