Diego was good duty. In Adak, I guess you could still drink and contemplate the mighty moose. Good times.
Sorry, no moose on Adak, just some cariboo and fox. Both brought in by man. Fishing is great though. Lots of salmon, cod and halibut.
I found Diego Garcia more boring than Adak. Once you had gone to the beach, you had pretty much done everything there was to do there. Swimming in the lagoon wasn't advised due to the presence of Hector the Hammerhead shark. That was the name we gave all the sharks. One civillian worker was killed by the sharks in the lagoon during my stay. He was surf fishing and waded out too far.
Adak was far more picturesque with plenty of hiking, hunting and fishing. Of course, the weather often limited your ability to do any of those.
