I notice this all the time and cannot see why.

e.g. Cargo TF from SF to PH
Setup to 'Retirement allowed' & 'unload cargo'.

When it reaches PH it starts unloading but it's not docked.

When doing my daily wizz around various ports I see this quite often but am never sure why some TF 'dock' and then start unloading automatically and some don't.

I dont think it has anything to do with Port capacity etc. as I've seen it on some large ports with nothing else but the cargo TF in the port 'undocked'.

What determines if a TF auto-docks at destination or not?

Strange. I have only seen this in two circumstances
1) TF cannot dock because port is already full of docked ships
2) TF arrived late and has not yet had time to start unloading. You can hit "dock" manually and it will dock or you can just ignore it and it will automatically dock and unload in the next turn.

I see the same thing pompack does.

I'm very sure I've seen it in empty ports with capacity > TF Size.

I'm not so sure on your second point.

The way I understand ops is that if a TF is say 2 hexes from base and it can move 3 hexes it will have some ops leftover that turn to dock and begin unloading.

I just find it odd that I would see so many TF that end up with 0 ops in port when I review during the orders phase i.e. they exactly use all their movement to hit the port.

Maybe its just a display issue where the TF has 0 ops after hitting the port, the info I check during orders says 'unloading' but actually hasnt started yet.
The next end turn processing then docks the TF and starts unloading.

I will pay closer attention to a few to satisfy myself.

I thought I had this problem but over time I've noted that every time I thought it didn't autodock, nothing had unloaded yet (it might say "unloading", but all the cargo was on board). Every time something had actually been unloaded, the TF was docked.

So, basically what pompack said.

For the 0 points, my speculation is that ammo was replinished which thereby used all 1000.
quote:

6.2.14 OPERATION POINTS page 107
"Operation Points (or OPs) reflect the time spent on refueling, replenishing of ammo, loading and unloading of cargo. These actions reduce the movement of a TF during a Resolution Phase......If a ship has any ammo replenished, it will use 1000 Operation Points.

However, I am not certain what order that ammo, load/unload & cargo operate.

I've asked for some help in the following thread & hopefully others might be able to help give a much better reply.

OPs, Docking & Anchored detailed questions
