I started a new WitPAE game with Patch 1 a couple of days ago, and I have some observations and comments. (This is the fourth start AE that I've made as the Allies against the AI.)

For the first time in WitP/WitPAE I actually witnessed a sub-on-sub confrontation as a US sub on its way back to Pearl Harbor a couple of days after the KB attack caught a Japanese sub on the surface and sank it with a torpedo!

Also for the first time in my WitP/WitPAE experience US subs actually torpedoed two of the retiring KB carriers near Pearl Harbor. Sure, there may be some Fog-of-War in those reports, but afterwards the KB did retire very slowly to the west past Johnston Island. (I definitely love the AE feature that allows me to set Patrol Zones for my subs, because the subs then doggedly chase after any enemy TF that is spotted in their patrol zone.)

After several Allied PT encounters in the PI and DEI it appears that the Allied PTs have indeed been dialed-back a bit. However, they still do a good job when they catch an unescorted transport TF.

I have seen three "oddities":

1 - I had a CA and two DMS meet at Baker Island. I then disbanded both TFs, but when I tried to form a new TF, of any "make or model", all three ships were grayed-out. So I had to restart that particular turn. On the re-start, I simply transferred the two DMS into the CA TF and ordered them to sail away from the "Baker Triangle". I'm not sure if that is WAD for a level 0 port, but it is disconcerting.

2 - I am regularly seeing "halves" of messages on the screen during the Combat Replay. Not all messages, and not predictable, but often, and mainly over Malaya, Southern China, and the Philippines.

3 - I ordered three AA units at Cape Town to do a "Strategic Packing" and to load onto three individual TFs, each of which had a fairly large AP and AK in it. The next turn the TFs took off, but they only took on the "Observers" and left the bulk of the AA units behind. I was able to order two of the TFs to "Turn Around", but for some reason I couldn't give orders to the third TF, so I'll have to wait until it gets out of the Off-Map zone to send it back.

Oddly enough, I've done the same thing at other bases such as Pearl, San Diego, and another Off-Map base, and it worked fine. I'm going to try it again with the freshly recombined AA units, but this time I will wait for them to fully finish "packing" to see if that makes a difference.

This problem has been reported before

I have had the same problem at capetown and aden only. when you load and plot destination in same turn they leave early partially loaded. Workaround load unit with No destination. After loading complete, set destination.

Okay, that sounds like a reasonable workaround.

Thanks

Why? In Witp, you couldn't disband into anything below level 3. AE allows it but you better check your tonnage first. I would NEVER disband at a level 0 port. Just form a new TF and transfer ships. That's what the feature is there for.

Shouldn't be disconcerting at all. If there's a problem it is that it even LET you disband there.

I got "spoiled" by the ability to disband anywhere.

What is additionally surprising to me is that whereas in WitP you could create a new TF from the "Base Screen", in AE you can't unless there are ships "In Port" - you can't create a new TF if the ships at a base are already in TFs. So I keep on forgetting to create a new TF from one of the TF screens. It's just a matter of me "unlearning" some of the WitP mechanics.

There ya go. It's but a simply adjustment. No need for being disconcerted.
