So I wanted to log in as normal and always. For the first time ever I had to enter a displayed "encrypted" code word to do so. Other than that all looks the same.

Is this a new anti spam, anti link, anti virus feature?

Just curious

Yes, it's one of our recent attempts to reduce the spam-bot intrusions. So far it seems to be working.

Yes I see the need, but I use to be able to go straight to the forum using roboform for my password protection program. Now I get stopped and have to type in the letters.

Progress, two steps forward, one backward.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, because I do understand why you are doing it.

Unfortunately there are jack-asses that sell software to those spammers that is geared for no other purpose but to decifer these cryptic words.  And the sad part is they are much better at letter recognition than humans are :(

The best system I ever saw were those simple questions, where only a human could know the correct answeres to.

I'm glad this effort has been made. It was on May 4th of this year that I made the suggestion to use one of those log in systems-hopefully it will help.

Clearly something was done to clean up the bots. Several posts in the WW1 forum by a SB have suddenly disappeared.

Death to spammers!-or at least cut off a few fingers. Yes, I like that; leave them their thumbs! OK-I'm soft hearted; leave them thumbs and pinkies. Now, about the second offense...

Thanks-I love Thomas Jefferson. The problem with him is that he had so many brilliant statements that is very difficult to choose just one for a tag line. There are more along the same lines as that one, but are a little long to use for a signature.

So far, this seems to be working, so no complaints - even though it is an extra line to type everytime I log on (which doesn't really take that much longer, though).

Weird. I never have to type in my pw for posting here, FF does that automatically.

Maybe it's a matter of enabling cookies?

+1
Firefox is set to remember my forum password and i don't need to type it even with the new encrypted text.
Hope spammers go away with it

I'm not a big fan of auto-login, don't even know why - it's not like anyone else is using this computer... but in any case, the extra line of text doesn't trouble me.

The good news is that since we implemented this and a few other measures, the daily spam-bot attacks have virtually disappeared. So it seems to be a good thing.

I don't mind at all. The ones I DO mind are those that ask you to input the numbers and characters shown on an image - which is completely illegible!!

To me it's a big NO NO to log on to the forum ! I used to CTRL+ENTER with Opera in order to log in. As featured now it's saving the Captcha entry each time I type a new one in, preventing to benefit from the Wand provided by Opera

Really disapointing. I can't see any advantage in adding more and more to a so called security system. Do you intend to add a DRM-like features on the Matrix games forum if the password+Captcha one utlimately fails ?

Firefox logs me in automatically even with the new system. This has nothing to do with DRM.

I have a problem with some letters and certain colors. I gather that they are always letters (no zero's). What happens if you fail the third time.

Well, if you can fix it so all the Chinese spambots go away for ever, then I'm sure Matrix will be happy to oblige your lazy self and remove this "inconvenience" again. Until then, stop whining.

There's no need to pile on here. Change always generates complaints, but hopefully folks will end up finding other ways to auto-login if they need to.

I'm using Chrome most of the time and FF-both save the log in info w/o issues. I have not tried IE yet withthe new system.-I have gotten spoiled with these faster loading browsers.

V22-I also use Opera-have had it for years-sometimes as my default browser. Its very good, but not at the top of the heap right now-maybe next month. These are volatile times...

Well, for me, it's much easier to use than IE, Opera Loads much faster and it seems to take up less RAM.You can't beat the speed dial, I have all the forums I go one click away, there's even a picture of the sight, I don't even use the standard bookmarks drop menu anymore.

Back on topic, I like this new measure to keep out the bots.My auto-login seems to still work fine, so this has no effect on me.

Speed dial? Bookmarks? Well, ok, I use bookmarks, but mostly just as part of using keywords. Ctrl-L, 1-3 letters, and I'm where I want to be.

Nah. I got a really hard Captcha anti spam filter on my forum, and I still got porn spammers. Not as many as there were before, but these douchebags are apparently making an effort to get past the spam filters by having real people do the legwork. I can't hardly read the encrypted code my self, but I still get an average of one new user a day from a "ru" IP.

I don't have any problem with the auto log in here. I wish I could say the same for my own forum. It works for some people and not for others, and nobody has any idea why.
