Why do rockets seem to get tons of hits against tanks, most of them kills, while tube arty rarly hits or kill?

I've bought these bad boys as OB arty with support points in a long campaign. I used them in the first turn bombardment, and they were unavailable after that. They sound great, but are terribly inaccurate. That's been my experience with them. Anyone else?

I buy three groups and group them around an ammo dump. Use the first two groups as needed and use the third while the other two are reloading.

I suspect your die rolls on rocket tank hits were 'lucky', but rocket units certainly have the penetration values to kill most tanks. Dont forget that rockets often have a larger number of strikes on central target area hexes than do tube arty, especially with american & brit 'land matress' units, since they fire so many rounds.

As far as accuracy goes, there is a sort of 6x6 area pattern that results from close to target hex on-board rockets, esp when range is 20-30 hexes. Offboard rockets spread out much more, since they are so much further from the target.

I often play without ammo restrictions and rockets are CERTAINLY devastating in this situation, usually firing every turn.

Even with limited ammo if you get some on-board and park them next to an ammo dump, you get lots of mayhem for your investment.

22,0 cm is (like we all don't know this by now) 220 mm, thats like dropping an 8" to 10" tube of explosives on your head. LOTS of bang for for the buck. The reason they are so devistating is that they have lots of explosives in them -- pure and simple.

I used a set against the AI in a random scenario once (I bought my own units, of course) and toltally destroyed a village. Only two buildings were left standing, and one of those was on fire. I didn't have any trouble with infantry ambushing my armor. ;)

I don't know about luck but I swear I have seen, more than once, four through five tanks hit in one barrage.

I don't know if it's the case in the game, but a large explosion should have a greater chance of affecting a tank in the same hex than a small one, and rockets do have a very large charge vs calibre, for certain reasons founded in physics that I won't go into (unless anyone is interested).
