I was just reading the Declaration of Independence. Its still impressive; immortal words, written and endorsed in spite of mortal peril.

Definitely bold words for the day. Have you ever read Locke's 2nd Treatise of Government? A lot of our founding fathers did and definitely borrowed a lot of verbiage from it. Another great read, though it's been awhile for me.

Yeah, we had a great time at my cousin's house tonight. Conspicuous consumption of food, traditional stuff (hot dogs, hamburgers, side dishes, desserts). He lives on the bank of the Kanawha River, and it rained much of the evening. It cleared at about 9 pm, so the fireworks were brought out. It was cool. From both banks of the river, the competition was on. We Americans still get off on watching the rockets' red glare. We had a lovely time.

It has been many years since I've even heard that title. I have just looked it up and am reading it (thanks ). It wil take a while, but it looks to be worth it. It will be time well spent for this Holiday weekend.

The coolest Fourth I can remember, but the rain didn't stop "the rockets red glare". May the US; though she may occaisonally stumble, remain a beacon of freedom to the world.

...nor the fog in our case. I saw no less than 4 fireworks shows last night. It was cool but I always have to break a few laws in the spirit of the event myself....

Our poor dog had a terrible night. He doesn't like booms and bangs, including thunder storms. We've tried giving him some pills the vet prescribed but they don't seem to calm him either. He just goes to the garage door and starts whimpering, so we let him in the garage. For some reason he likes to sit in a car when he's scared. Here's a pic of him during a thunder storm sitting in my dad's car.

It really kills me when he starts whimpering and shaking during a thunderstorm or something. He's a great dog with a big heart. I found him stray after a hurricane here in Florida back in 2004. But we try to keep him spoiled the rest of the time.

Poor pooch. I guess the hurricane traumatised him. Looks like a nice dog though.
