I decided to be proactive and try and organize my own game, so I decided to throw in a twist to see if I have any takers.

I propose a 1792 Denmark game (ie. Denmark replacing Sweden as a major power). Bonaparte attrition. With or without Russian Guard's All Generals Mod (though I think WITH would be better). Length-23 years. Highest Glory. Advanced Economy, of course.

As the proposer of this game, I'll be glad to take the weak country, Denmark.

Not sure about bids for the others. Whatever everyone else thinks would be best.

SINCE I have had some interest, I'll make a list here at the 1st posting:

For voting: IN CAPS-Confirmed Country (vote for 1792 Denmark All Generals/Vote for regular Denmark (if no All Generals)/Vote for forger)

ENGLAND--Aprezto (yes/yes/?)
France--Guctony
SPAIN---Dab (yes/?/no), TZ- GMT -6 (US central time), Lang-English
PRUSSIA--AndrewKurtz (yes/yes/no)
AUSTRIA--Deerslayer (abstain/abstain/abstain)
TURKEY--Deadmeat1471 (yes/?/?)
RUSSIA--Carl Rugenstein (yes/yes/no)
DENMARK---Evwalt (yes/yes/no) TZ-GMT -6 (US central time) , Lang-English

Maybees---Kingmaker, Ironwarrior

Interesting. If I hadn't just started another 23 year game, I would be up for it. Good luck. And I will be interested to hear about how this goes for the Danish! :)

Danish ? I love Danish !! Mmmmm.

Thanks for being proactive. Please count me in your merry band. I'm not very experienced so would prefer to not play France, Austria or England.

Carl

FOR SPAIN

I am inexperienced at PBEM, but from reading these forums, the SPAINISH player is the one who merges the turns.

It appears this requires some extra Oomph computing power, so to avoid the problems some other games appear to be having, we want to make sure that our Spanish player can merge with no problems.

Of course, I am not sure how to test this. Anyone have any ideas?

I've been tinkering with Russia so I think I'd like to try them.

Don't know if there is a need but I have some web page space available if it would be useful.

HiHi

I'll fill in a slot if you get really stuck (not france, and not if it involves fiddling with Set-up); but can I also suggest you Chaps have a trawl around for new players from your contacts, the wider the field of players the better.

All the Best

Too many games for me ATM.  I would fill in on reserve if needed though.

I'd like to join this game when it gets going. I have a fairly good computer and would be willing to give a go at playing Spain to be the merge person.

I have a business working from home via the phone, fax, and internet so I am at the computer a good part of every day.

I have been playing against the AI for a long time but never a PBEM.

So put me down for "Will play Spain unless someone else really wants it".

Great! Dab down for Spain at the moment.

No worries about PBEM--I think it is new for a few of us and we will feel it through the first few turns.

Halfway there with another maybe. Anyone for France?

Yes, indeed a place. I'll put you down for France and firm up the list at the top, since we seem to be going with selection instead of bidding

Looks like we need a Prussia and a Turkey.

Depending on if Deerslayer wants England or Austria, we will need the one he doesn't take.

Three more!

Cool good to see progress on this one. Put me down as a 'maybe' as well. Only just to help out if needed, I have a lot of games on my plate right now. Plus I'd rather see new players get in.

Ditto IW, new players take preference.

Re fiddling with Set up, I ain't modding stuff up, full praise to the Chaps that spend there time creating the Mods , but I just don't like fiddling around with the Set-up.

As we begin to fill up, time now to get everyones thoughts on using Russian Guard's 1792 ALL GENERALS mod (I believe 2 of 3 of the other games use it).

It basically allows for the later generals to appear (including Napoleon!) that would NOT appear normally. Only the French player would have an extra step in the game, manually removing his starting NM bonus general (whose name escapes me at the moment) when Napoleon appears (so he has only 1 NM bonus).

So, do we want this or not? Again, I would vote YES (even though it helps Denmark not at all!) Can't imagine Napoleon never appearing in a Napoleonic game.

I must agree regarding Napoleon/historical leaders. It might throw things a bit out of balance but it also puts France into the historical role (disturber to the established order) they played in the period. For me that flavor and placing France somewhat apart from the other nations is terribly important to the game.

On Russian Guards I must express no opinion since I am Russia and biased.

Thank you evwalt for investing your time to create this PBEM so that we can all play.

First, Russian Guard is the MODDER of the All Generals mod, so no special Russian Guard benefit, sorry Carl.

Remember, that there are no random events in PBEM, so France is going to be hard pressed (ie. no free money or units) so they probably need a boost.

I also prefer the mod. As a player of France ofcourse And I Agree removing NM bonus general. But as house rule we must also limit the number of foragers ability I guess. Because if you create an army with the abilty then you can go anywhere.

Also as a footnote if you are old enough you can remember a game called L_Empereur By Koei. I just found it here http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/506/L'Empereur.html Its amazing it still strucks me.

For the limits to the forger ability, I would think if we are playing with Bonaparte attrition we wouldn't need it. Sure, you could forge ok, but every time you moved you would get weaker with no ability to gain replacements (ie. no depots).

I also think that a forger limit would mostly hurt the French and I wouldn't want to see that. I would think, if someone wants to invest in massive numbers of forgers, you would suffer in other areas by not gaining upgrades.

That said, I am open to whatever everyone else wants.

Also added your vote for All Generals.

Does the mod only affect this 1792 scenario or will it affect games already in progress i.e. PBEM and Single Player? I really don't want to fool with doing a dual install if it does affect.

I believe there are instructions in the mod threat to create another scenerio type (like the Danish 1792 scenerio). Thus, I THINK you won't need a duel install. I wouldn't want that also.

Also, per a PM, AndrewKurtz is in as Prussia! One to go, unless Kingmaker or Ironwarrior want to step us as Turkey.

Ok. I did some testing and finally got the all generals mod to work. Easy, once you know how (cross fingers).

<removed to avoid confusion. Instructions on the 1792 Denmark All Generals mod are below in another entry>

ADDED: Oops the only country I didn't look at was my own, Denmark. WHen I did so, I discovered that the All Generals Mod was only designed to play with Sweden. I was thinking I could simply copy and paste the text changes (ie. recopy the Denmark and Sweden info from the regular 1792 to the All Generals mod. It looked like an easy fix, but I have no idea what Russian General changed in the file.) Something else (and I will be posting this in the tech support) that may kill the Danish game. WHile checking the text files, I noticed that Denmark has ZERO chance of any rebels. Looks like someone forgot to change Sweden to Denmark, when they added Denmark as a player.

I MAY be able to get with Russian Guard and fix the all generals scenerio for Denmark. I MAY also be able to give Denmark the chance of rebels. I'll need to get on it. For now, IGNORE the above. If I can fix the files, it will be valid. I'll put another notice in of that later.

I couldnt agree more. If all players prefer a more active france player I am more then ready to use forger ability. But still I think that we must mod the value of forger a bit. Which I think I can do if everybody agree. The reason is simply historical resons. France will be constantly be attacked by multi directons. But historically what limited the attackers early on in my belief was their long lines of communication which limited the number of troops they can put to french soil. For example early at war I can expect 40k to 60k armies with a combined force of 120k to 140k when they attack to gether. Or else with forger ability My chances of defending france soil will be low. Which is not historical I belive because Forgering is the one big differance which make the french so efficient in mobile operational defence. Which in my point of view " it might not be correct" was the main difference from the other armies of the period.

So what I suggest is limiting forager ability but limiting other then france more.

But at this point we must discuss how historical play we want.
And also when we begin

Well, I started taking a look at the all Generals mod. I figured I might be able to play around and fix it. I was about to give up when I found the Modder's Guide. Jackpot!

Anyway, I finally managed to make the All Generals mod work for 1792 Denmark. The changes are below:

*Denmark made a playable power.
*Denmark can now have Danish rebels.
*Denmark given the expanded promotion values to match expanded other powers.
*Kept all the expanded Generals with a few exceptions:
1)added back the Danish General Fredrick, who I think Russian Guard removed by mistake.
2)removed all the Swedish generals who show up later in the scenerio (don't know what would happen if they stayed in for a minor power) and replaced them with Danish generals
3) Reduced Bonaparte skills reduced to his 1796 skills.
4) Added a new leader Napoleon, who appears in November, 1799 (when he became First Consul) with the stats Russian Guard used.
*Also made one change to balance the game better (everyone start complaining if you don't want it to happen). Basically, removed the Swedish Diplomat (minors shouldn't have one) and added him to Denmark (who didn't have one, and with the lack of textiles would probably never get on)

Now, the French General Dumouriez does NOT need to be removed when Bonaparte appears. The French will only remove Dumouriez when Napoleon appears. General Bonaparte must also be removed when Napoleon appears. If for some reason, Bonaparte has died before Napoleon appears, the French will also have to remove Napoleon. Probably also need a house rule that no one can force the French to remove Bonaparte (Napoleon is fair game).

Thoughts?

Also, I'll be posting the mod tomorrow so you can all have a look!

Any thought on the forger ability? My thoughts (especially having to mod things) would be to leave it alone. I don't think any of the other games have had problems with massive armies quickly overrunning France (the invasion is not at all like when the computer plays), but I am open to anything.

As for starting, we need 1 more player (Turkey). I have contacted Ironwarrior and Kingmaker to see if they want to join in.

I HOPE to be going by the end of the week. By tonight (CST), I should have the Denmark All Generals mod available for you all to take a look at.
